SUMMARY:

The Director of Maryland Operations is a key member of the aggregate operations leadership team and oversees the safe and efficient production of quality materials for a number of aggregate sites within an assigned geographic area. This role will develop operational plans that align with organizational strategy and direct overall activities to achieve desired results. This position must be able to work effectively through directing the team of managers that reports to this role. This role will manage a team of plant managers as well as a team of resources that are shared across sites. This position must have strong and effective leadership and communication skills. Further this role will be responsible for working closely with functions that do not report directly to this role (procurement, mobile equipment, safety, finance, HR, sales, etc.).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • The Director of Maryland Aggregate Operations will oversee the operations in Maryland to ensure safe production, reliability, efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources while cultivating an environment that keeps customer service as a key priority.
  • In conjunction with the VP of Aggregate Operations, develops and executes operational plans for Maryland operations that align with overall YBP strategy and that promotes a best-in-class and professionalized approach to safety, sustainability, automation, people development, profitability, and growth as an organization
  • Works with plant managers in area of responsibility to ensure that plans, resources and reporting/monitoring/metrics are in place for the safe, compliant and effective operation of each site. This is done in conjunction with the EH&S, HR, Finance, Procurement and Sales teams
  • Establishes quantitative and qualitative metrics, guidelines, and standards by which the company's efficiency and effectiveness can be evaluated; identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for improvement and develops and drives initiatives directed at safe working practices and efficiency gains
  • Work in close cooperation with Sales and QC team as well as other departments to reach annual targets and ensure customer needs are met. Adapt plans as necessary to meet evolving market needs.
  • Develops budgets and forecasts that align with evolving business including capital planning. Continually monitors financials for performance against budget/forecast and strives to continuously improve through collaboration & performance management.

  • Projects a positive image of the organization to employees, customers, industry, and community.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information;
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations/permits and Group guidelines in area of responsibility.
  • Must be available to support team as needed after hours and on weekends (remote and occasionally on site if necessary)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Requirements:

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of industry management experience with progressive experience in management roles
  • Multi-site management experience preferred
  • 2+ years of director level management experience is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or relevant discipline preferred
  • Possesses a strong mining industry acumen with knowledge of aggregate business (aggregate production process and products as well as market (competition, customers, products)
  • Experience in both stone mining and sand & gravel mining is strongly preferred
  • Experience with the financial aspects of the business including P&L, cash flow, and budgeting
  • Strong communication and project management skills with ability navigate ambiguity effectively
  • Must be well organized and have attention to detail
  • Proven track record of accomplishments in Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), employee development, change management and team leadership
  • Demonstrates the ability to develop/mentor managers
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Perform all work in accordance with YBP Safety policies.
  • The work is performed outdoors and/or indoors, enduring heat, cold, rain, dust, wind, and other elements.


PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:

  • Physical demands include but are not limited to walking, sitting, bending, stooping, and lifting – 50 pounds maximum.
