JOB SUMMARY:

The Safety Manager is responsible for managing the Environmental, Health, and Safety efforts within York Building Products and its affiliated companies including York Materials Group and Heritage Concrete. The Safety Manager administers systems and activities to maintain oversight of regulatory compliance status; provides training; conducts audits and inspections and monitors metrics and indices reflecting performance.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct field safety audits to ensure compliance with company policies and Federal state, and local regulations.
  • Identify potential causes for accidents and recommend changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents and illnesses.
  • Investigate incidents and perform root cause analysis to identify corrective actions.
  • Communicate current trends, incidents, and field audits in detailed reports to the Director of EHS.
  • Provide a high level of professional knowledge in safety and health to field operations.
  • Provide additional support to Plant Managers, Foremen, and field personnel.
  • Promote the Corporate Safety and Health programs and policies. Ensure that the training identified in the safety and health training plan is completed.
  • Help develop safety training and educational materials for the business unit’s needs.
  • Assist with New Hire Orientation and complete all new hire paperwork.
  • Responsible for administrative duties. Update and track all documentation, certifications, and any other required paperwork through Site Docs.
  • Perform routine training on safety and health requirements to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Serve as liaison for any Federal Agency inspections (OSHA, MSHA).
  • Ensure site-specific safety programs are developed and kept current at all locations. (Ex. Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Etc.).
  • Conduct/coordinate industrial hygiene sampling when needed to investigate and reduce employee exposures in the workplace.
  • Coordinate Forklift, Aerial Lift, Scissor Lift, and First Aid/CPR/AED training as needed.
  • Develop and monitor emergency action plans.
  • Develop and administer weekly toolbox talks for plants.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or 5+ years of safety experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge of and/or experience with the rules and regulations of workers' compensation, federal and state safety laws, OSHA, and MSHA is required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of analytical tools and other logistics software preferred (i.e., HSI, Site Docs, data mining/reporting)
  • Ability to analyze, define, diagnose, and resolve problems based on sound logic and rationale.
  • Aptitude to express ideas clearly and concisely using appropriate mediums (i.e. face-to-face, email, presentations), listen effectively, demonstrate understanding, and clarify meaning for others.
  • Capability to lead and influence in a matrix organization by interacting cooperatively and collaboratively with others as a team, including those holding divergent and/or opposing views and goals.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned duties with little to no supervision.
  • Demonstrates an ability to manage a variety of priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
