Purpose:
The Credit & Collections Specialist will investigate and assess the credit risk in customers and suppliers and advise on course of action for credit applications, payment terms, customer deposits, and credit limits. Duties will include executing the processes to improve cash flow and reduce receivables; monitoring and negotiating the collection of overdue accounts; monitoring credit and collection processes and operations; and providing recommendations on opportunities for improvement. This position will manage the collection of outstanding invoices for assigned Regions while adhering to company policy and will oversee cash and credit application.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversees the collection of outstanding credit and invoices to maximize profit/loss while ensuring it is handled appropriately and per company policy.
- Research new customer credit information included but not limited to credit history information (ie. D&B, etc.) and banking references. Contact credit references and assist in credit analysis.
- Review all credit information with Credit & Collections Manager and recommend credit limits.
- Set up new customers in INFOR
- Notify the Sales Team of the approved credit limit approved or reason why is was declined.
- Assist in waiver processing by verifying balances due before executing lien waivers.
- Manage collection activities for assigned Region(s) such as negotiating with past-due accounts, negotiating and resolving conflict, expediting payments, referring account to collection agencies, and sending follow-ups.
- Develops goals that complement the overarching business goals of the Region(s)
- Based on balance due aging, adhere to collection processes to contact customers who have outstanding accounts and obtain past due payments.
- Oversees the adherence to the credit issuance procedures and approvals.
- Manages daily credit applications and credit limits.
- Verifies accuracy of data provided to 3rd party collections and lien filing partners. Provides initial recommendation for legal collection and lien applications
- Monitors and negotiates the payment of past due accounts. Establishes procedures for final demand of payment.
- Achieves Credit & Collection KPI metrics.
- Maintains integrity and confidentiality of customer accounts, relationships, and PCI data.
- Provides feedback to improve all aspects of credit & collections functions and processes.
- Assists in formulation of specific collection objectives and achievement of same.
- As needed, initiates direct interaction with selected clients in resolving receivables delinquencies.
- Complete other project and tasks as directed by management.
Position Requirements:
- Associate’s degree preferred, high school diploma or equivalent required
- 3-5 years prior experience in credit and collections as specialist or higher level positions.
- Must possess strong system skills; solid collection, analytical and negotiating skills; effective oral and written communication skills; and a solid knowledge of commercial credit and collection laws.
- Ability to ascertain appropriate communication to customers, who to work with and who to take a hard line.
- Effectively work within a team environment, but also independently with little or no supervision.
- Ability to understand contracts, purchase orders and other contractual documentation
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Must have proficient computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Ability to effectively communicate via phone, email and in person.
- Able to work additional hours during peak seasons or when required by management.
