SUMMARY

The Receiving Associate (RA), is responsible for the safe and timely unload, processing, receipt, package and movement of a wide variety of items (i.e. packages, equipment, and other Customer products) at the receiving dock. The type, size, weight and quantity of material vary widely and the safe use of powered and non-powered material handling equipment in strict accordance with company policies and procedures is critical to prevent injury and damage to products. The RA must always be cognizant for damaged product, quantity discrepancies or any other noticeable deficiencies. Commitment to safety, quality, attention to detail, strong work ethic and a positive attitude are key components of this position.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties & responsibilities related to this position function include, but are not limited, to the following:

Operational

  • Verifying materials (or merchandise) against receiving documents, noting and reporting discrepancies and obvious damages.
  • Unloads freight and small parcel deliveries from third party carriers manually and with the safe use of equipment.
  • Checks packages for damage and notates damage as needed
  • Verifies paperwork accuracy; identifying and investigating inconsistencies; annotating relevant findings, processing electronic receipts; responding to queries; composing emails.
  • Updates Customer and Banneker systems with shipment details using RF scanning equipment.
  • Physically putaway received products.
  • Process return shipments from customers when applicable.
  • Prepare and package material for pick-up or delivery (palletize, strapping, shrink wrap, etc.), seal, and label materials to prepare for distribution, ensuring all special requirements are met.
  • Adhere to receiving policies and procedures, and maintain compliance with laws, regulations, and/or standards and complete appropriate documentation as required.
  • Perform general physical activities to sort and move shipments; may assist with loading trailers.
  • Operate material handling equipment.
  • Perform clerical tasks that support special customer reports and customer metrics.
  • Completes various logs and other documentation required by Company policy and customer requirements.
  • Prepares and maintains neat and accurate records in accordance with company policies and procedures as needed.
  • Provides assistance to resolve customer issues.
  • RA I: responsible for receiving within Banneker’s Warehouse Management System (WMS)
  • RA II: additionally responsible for receiving with Customer Warehouse Management Systems.

EHS & Security

  • Wear the approved personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment using 5s principles and by keeping workstations, aisles, storage locations and other warehouse areas neat and organized at all times. May be assigned facilities duties as needed (e.g. sweep, dust, mop, etc.).
  • Adhere to and promote company safety and security policies and procedures including local, state, and federal guidelines.

Other

  • Contributes to maintaining compliance to Quality Management System certifications and participates in projects and initiatives focused on driving Continual Improvement throughout the organization (i.e. Kaizen events).
  • Assists with special projects from time to time as required and performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a valid non-CDL driver’s license or Government issued ID assigned by the state of current residence.
  • Able to work a flexible work schedule as needed including planned and unplanned schedules, which may include mandatory overtime and weekends.
  • Must be professional at all times.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or clear E-Verify and successfully pass a Background Check.
  • Team Members may be asked to secure a Government Security Clearance.
  • Must be willing to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and participate in on-going random drug screen program (as applicable).
  • Must pass pre-employment tests, if applicable.
  • Must possess willingness, tolerance and endurance to work long or irregular hours during peak seasons, including weekends if necessary.

KNOWLEDGE

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Great attention to detail with ability to focus on the task at hand and basic math skills including counting up to 1000, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to identify individual items and sub-items.
  • Knowledge of forklifts, their operation and limitations, including their designs and uses. Understand the use of warehouse management systems and RF scanning equipment.
  • Must have knowledge of load securement and other DOT regulations.
  • Database Software: Microsoft Access
  • Inventory Software: Synapse WMS or Similar
  • Spreadsheet Processing Software: Microsoft Office Suite

EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant experience in Receiving Operations (or similar) - working knowledge of handling, storing, and shipping materials or supplies; operating material handling equipment; accessing information on a computer; reviewing documents for accuracy.
  • RA I – minimum 3 - 12 months
  • RA II – minimum 1 – 3 years

PHYSICAL DEMAND

  • Frequent use of hands.
  • Continuous and repetitive physical exertion required, such as:
  • Walking, standing, stooping, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, crawling, crouching, lifting, and maneuvering material or equipment, some of which may be heavy (50+ pounds) or awkward.

MENTAL/VISUAL DEMAND

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with good communication skills.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to quickly adjust focus from one perspective to another.
  • Must possess willingness, tolerance and endurance to work long or irregular hours during peak seasons, including weekends if necessary.

SAFETY OF OTHERS/ PRODUCT

  • Adhere to all company safety rules and guidelines.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ HAZARDS

  • Majority of the work performed is in a warehouse facility environment, with some outdoor exposure during the workday to temperature extremes.
  • The warehouse environment will be protected from extreme heat and cold temperatures, but ambient temperatures typically range from 50&degree;F - 75&degree;F and proper dress should be considered.
  • Regular exposure to moving machinery, loud noises, and fumes, may cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness.
  • Personal protective equipment is required in the warehouse area that may include safety shoes, gloves, protective eyewear and helmets. There will be heavy traffic in the warehouse facility and while in the warehouse.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The supervisor makes assignments by defining objectives, priorities, and deadlines and assists the team member with unusual situations that do not have clear precedents. Team member plans and carries out the successive steps and handles problems and deviations in the work assignments in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training or accepted practices in the occupation. Completed work is usually evaluated for quality, accuracy, technical soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and customer requirements.

GUIDELINES REQUIRED

Procedures for doing the work have been established and a number of specific guidelines are available for the team members to follow. Judgment is required in the handling of special goods and products. Decisions to support these deviations to adapt the guideline to a specific area or unique task are required.

EQUIPMENT

This position role routinely uses standard material handling equipment such as fork trucks (Class I, II, III, IV, V), pallet jacks, ladders, box cutters and tape dispensers and infrequent use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This position requires the incumbent to be trained in and certified to operate warehouse material handling equipment, vehicles and tools. The incumbent may also be required to operate Company vehicles (box truck, van, etc.) to travel between Company facilities.
