We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as our Corporate Director of Employee Relations. Our candidate will have extensive employee relations experience in the hospitality industry. This position will require in office days of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (Remote Monday and Friday). Travel as needed. Office is located in Center City Philadelphia.

Responsibilities:

The Corporate Director of Employee Relations will oversee Area HR Directors across multiple states, providing expert support in employee relations. This role includes ensuring compliance with current employment laws and staying updated with new legislation. Additionally, the Corporate Director will lead intricate investigations into alleged violations of the employee handbook and labor practices.


Work is performed under minimal supervision and performance evaluation is based upon completion and accuracy of assignments and results obtained. This position will work closely with hotel leadership to obtain accurate information to report to the Vice President of Human Resources.

Essential Duties Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance and support to Area HR Directors in navigating and resolving Employee Relations cases.
  • Ensure compliance with Human Resources policies and regulations throughout case resolution, including non-discrimination, attendance, standards of conduct, performance management, merit, and disciplinary actions. Analyze employee performance issues and recommend effective solutions.
  • Contribute to the development and management of equal employment opportunity and employee relations policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the collection and assessment of relevant facts related to reported allegations, ensuring consistency with hotel policies and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Maintain and track detailed records, statistics, data, and notes throughout the investigatory process. Produce professional, thorough, and objective written reports summarizing facts and providing recommended findings.
  • Establish timely communication with all relevant parties to facilitate appropriate and prompt decision-making.
  • Regularly update and consult with the Area HR Directors and the VP of Human Resources on the status of allegations, complaints, and ongoing investigations.
  • Respond to and resolve Employee Hotline calls, collaborating with Managers to ensure timely and confidential resolution of employee concerns.
  • Support the Legal Department in responding to complaints and addressing employment-related litigation.
  • Assist Area HR Directors with transition preparations, including updating paperwork and supporting the onboarding process.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and EEO laws and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee Area HR Directors in managing survey participation and the action plan process.
  • Collaborate daily with Area HR Directors to foster team cohesion and engagement.
  • Create a work environment where employees feel safe, valued, and proud to be part of the organization.
  • Facilitate a culture with clear boundaries and transparent processes, ensuring employees understand expectations throughout their lifecycle and within their roles.
  • Identify, evaluate, and address human relations, employee morale, work performance, and organizational productivity concerns.
  • Travel frequently to various states as required to conduct investigations.


Work Environment

This role is a hybrid opportunity that requires 3 days onsite in the Philadelphia corporate office. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to effectively carry out each essential duty. The requirements listed represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for the role. This position involves supervisory responsibilities in alignment with organizational policies and applicable laws. Key responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding and disciplining staff, and addressing complaints and resolving issues.


Education And/or Experience:

  • At least 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, preferably in a hotel or a related industry.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • A thorough understanding of employment laws across multiple states is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be proficient in Windows operating systems and HRIS programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply deductive skills to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Must be able to travel frequently.
