NOTE: This Full-Time Youth Developer position is available until the grant period has completed for fiscal year (FY) 2024 & 2025.

LAYC/MMYC’s mission is to empower a diverse population of youth to achieve a successful transition to adulthood, through multicultural, comprehensive, and innovative programs that address youths' social, academic, and career needs. To achieve that mission, LAYC/MMYC provides services and opportunities to approximately 5,000 individuals annually to support academic achievement, promote healthy behaviors, and guide youth toward successful adulthood. LAYC/MMYC also conducts advocacy and public policy work to broaden opportunities for youth.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in mandatory Alcohol, Tobacco, Drug training that encompasses the full range of substances, including opioids.
  • Attend the National Prevention Network (NPN) Conference in Phoenix, AZ in August 2024.
  • Participate in mandatory CADCA Prevention Leadership and Strategic Prevention Framework training.
  • Develop a recruitment plan ensuring measurable results reach a variety of youth, focusing efforts on hard to engage youth.
  • Introduce YPLC and its certification at all community events.
  • Collaborate with other youth focused organizations and/or schools (at least 4 in in FY2024) to help recruit and promote youth.
  • Provide certification participants with a full range of substance use disorder (SUDs) and mental health training that support care along the behavioral health continuum of services, including Narcan training.
  • Coordinate CADCA’s Prevention Leadership/Strategic Prevention Framework training for youth participants.
  • Ensure that all documentation, including statistics, meeting attendance, and data is accurate and entered into ETO software system or other databases as appropriate;
  • Collaborate with other LAYC and community partners;
  • Contribute to narrative reports as required by SUDS;
  • Meet weekly with PC Director to discuss programmatic issues and monitor objectives attainment;
  • Improve professional skills by attending workshops, seminars, and training sessions (as needed and as required by SUDS and/or LAYC);
  • Provide referrals for substance abuse treatment when appropriate;
  • Document all contacts with youth, family members, LAYC staff, and other agencies involved in the provision of services;
  • Report on time, unless a legitimate excuse is provided;
  • Attends all mandatory LAYC staff meetings and adhere to all LAYC personnel policies;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the DCPC Director.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, childhood development, social work, or a related field. And/or 3 year of youth development work.
  • Minimum 2 years of youth development experience; school-based experience is a plus.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work well and communicate with culturally diverse populations.
  • Experience working with youth and/or communities.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to conduct program assessments, develop programming, and achieve outcomes.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to work independently and follow tasks through to completion.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and prepare reports.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule that will include some evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledge of youth engagement strategies – particularly with at-risk or disconnected youth populations
  • Complete criminal and child abuse/neglect clearances.
  • Flexible, energetic, positive individual with commitment to youth development in a high quality, respectful environment.
  • LAYC/MMYC requires the COVID-19 vaccine of all its employees. You will be asked to provide proof of vaccination at the time of your interview and at your onboarding.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 10 lbs. May require the ability to travel locally and/or regionally.
