At Advano, we are actively searching for a motivated Battery Cell Engineer who is passionate about driving innovation in energy storage. In this role, you will be at the forefront of battery technology, leading efforts to optimize battery materials, conduct thorough electrochemical testing, and play a key role in the development of advanced silicon anode materials. We're looking for someone with more than just technical expertise; we want a candidate with an entrepreneurial mindset, someone who is not afraid to push boundaries and explore new possibilities. Your robust analytical skills will be crucial as you analyze data, identify trends, and make informed decisions to enhance battery performance. 

Together, we aim to shape the future of energy storage, providing sustainable and impactful solutions that address the evolving needs of our world and establishing ADVANO as a trailblazer in the dynamic landscape of silicon anode technology. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Drive Design of Experiments (DOEs) to assess battery cell performance and degradation. 

  • Conduct battery testing and characterization, including utilizing various test conditions and equipment (e.g., Biologic Instruments, Maccor, or Arbin). 

  • Investigate battery cell degradation mechanisms and establish operational boundaries. 

  • Perform hands-on operations with battery cyclers, glove boxes, and fume hoods. 

  • Utilize statistical and data visualization tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP, Python, and MATLAB) for comprehensive data analysis. 

  • Employ electrochemical, chemical, and physical methods for in-depth cell characterization. 

  • Support cell qualification and battery manufacturing processes through teardowns and root cause analysis. 

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop cutting-edge battery materials. 

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related field; Master's or PhD preferred. 

  • Minimum of 3 years of industry experience working directly with lithium-ion battery cells. 

  • Hands-on experience with battery/cell teardowns and failure analysis. 

  • Strong entrepreneurial mindset, demonstrating creativity, responsiveness, flexibility, and the ability to challenge conventional business approaches. 

  • Proficient in influencing technical and business teams to achieve consensus on critical decisions. 

  • In-depth understanding of market trends and expertise in silicon material applications within Li-ion batteries. 

  • Proven interpersonal skills and successful collaboration at all organizational levels. 

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management teams, actively listen, and integrate ideas to improve solutions, thereby achieving company and functional goals. 

  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills, ensuring clarity and concise delivery of messages for organizational alignment.
