ROLE OBJECTIVE
The Senior Materials Engineer will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer and is tasked with spearheading technological advancements, positioning ADVANO as a leader in the battery materials and energy storage sector, particularly in enhancing REALSi technologies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role focuses on the development and refinement of carbon scaffolds designed to accommodate silicon materials, in alignment with the strategic business objectives of the company. As a vital team member, you will:
- Lead initiatives in the creation of carbon scaffolds.
- Identify and procure innovative or alternative carbon precursors to boost silicon performance.
- Collaborate with external partners to secure essential material supplies for product innovation.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced degree in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the active anode or battery sector.
- Expertise in carbon material formation and characterization, with a focus on developing carbon scaffolds for silicon materials.
- Strong foundation in polymer and organic chemistry principles.
- Proven laboratory skills, including experimental design and execution.
- Familiarity with battery material synthesis and characterization techniques, along with the ability to analyze electrode performance and improve processes based on material and process parameters.
- Comprehensive understanding of battery materials, interfaces, electrolytes, and electrochemistry to enhance the mechanistic understanding of battery performance.
- Ability to interpret analytical and electrochemical cell test data to establish correlations between processes and properties.
- Innovative thinker with a flexible approach, capable of challenging conventional business paradigms.
- Broad knowledge of silicon anode materials and applications, with an international perspective to effectively engage in a diverse marketplace.
- Strong capability to influence technical and business teams and achieve consensus on decisions.
- Market insight and expertise in silicon material applications within lithium-ion batteries.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and successful collaboration at all organizational levels.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to listen and integrate ideas into improved solutions to meet company and functional objectives.
- Exceptional written and verbal presentation skills for clear and concise communication.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates within a professional office and laboratory setting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Regular communication is required, and the employee may frequently need to stand, walk, use hands to manipulate objects, and reach with arms. This position may involve lifting laboratory products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.
