Position Summary
The Director of Business Development is responsible for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, and creating growth strategies to expand our client base and market presence. This role will be responsible for leading and developing the business for the Target Sales Team in Minnesota.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- In collaboration with EVP’s and VP’s, seek out opportunities that expand the scope of the Division.
- Analyze competitor strategies and industry developments to inform on business development initiatives.
- Track all Division accounts lost including documentation. If patterns emerge, develop a strategy to mitigate repeat losses.
- Seek out new opportunities with new and existing clients.
- Assist Directors on an as needed basis with development of processes and reporting that assist the Division.
- Support Account Executives by coaching, mentoring and developing them.
- Mentor, Coach and develop Target Sales Team.
- Maintain awareness of reporting data that supports the divisions business goals.
- Responsibility for onboarding of Tier 1 & Tier 2 clients and customers.
- Support EVP and VP at Tier 1 & Tier 2 industry events.
- Serve as Account Executive for 2-3 Tier 2 clients.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Marketing or a related field.
- 5+ Years experience in an Account Executive position, preferably within the food industry or food brokerage sector.
- Working knowledge and experience calling on Target Headquarters – Preferred
- Proven track record of successful client acquisition, relationship management, and revenue growth.

- Thoroughness -- Ensuring that one’s own and others’ work and information are complete and accurate; carefully preparing for meetings and presentations; following up with others to ensure agreements and commitments are fulfilled.
