Position Overview:

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) Program at Merrimack College in the Applied Human Development and Community Services Department invites applications for two 2) non-tenure-track, open rank, Assistant Professor of Practice, 9-month positions beginning Spring 2025. An earned doctorate in Counseling, Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology or a closely related field is preferred; or hold a master’s degree in Counseling with at least 10 years of professional clinical practice experience may be considered.

Our on-campus and online CMHC programs maintain high-touch engagement and connectedness to meet the needs of graduate students as we prepare them to deliver quality care to culturally diverse clients, using strengths-oriented and evidenced-based interventions. Our graduates are trained to meet the growing demand for mental health counseling in a number of different settings, including outpatient centers, hospitals, colleges, human resource departments, substance abuse treatment centers, non-profits, and government agencies. With the burgeoning telecounseling mental health landscape, our CMHC program enables students to fulfill the education and degree requirements to apply for licensure primarily in Massachusetts, the New England region (e.g., NH, ME, VT, CT, and RI) and beyond.

As an Assistant Professor of Practice (open rank, NTT), the successful candidates will be responsible for providing formal online instruction in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program with primary duties being effective delivery of instructional material and course management (e.g., assessments, grading, etc.), advising and mentoring of graduate students, and involvement in CMHC programmatic tasks. The successful candidates should demonstrate the experience or ability to teach a range of courses in the counseling discipline including but not limited to: Research and Evaluation, Evaluation & Treatment of Addictions, Psychological Assessment, and/or Career & College Counseling.

Primary Responsibilities: The NTT faculty would teach 16-credit/contact hours (4 courses) both during the fall and spring semesters of the academic year in addition to advising and mentoring students, attending faculty meetings, completing CMHC programmatic tasks, and other responsibilities as determined. Courses taught during the summer may be counted within overall teaching load during the academic year.

Qualifications: The successful candidate should meet the following qualifications:

(a) An earned doctorate (Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D.) in Counseling, Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology or a related doctoral degree is highly preferred; or hold a master’s degree in Counseling with at least 10 years of professional clinical practice experience may be considered,

(b) at least 3-5 years of experience teaching preferably synchronous or asynchronous online courses,

(c) experience in clinical supervision and training,

(d) demonstrates a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and demonstrated experience working with diverse students, and

(e) holds licensure as a mental health counselor with a minimum of 10 years of professional clinical practice experience after obtaining licensure is required; or holds licensure as a psychologist.
