Position Overview
The Department of Clinical Sciences at Tufts University's Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor specializing in Emergency and Critical Care (ECC). This role encompasses the responsibilities of educating and mentoring veterinary students and house officers, delivering advanced specialty medical services, and contributing to scholarly activities.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Engage in clinical rotation teaching and formal instruction within the DVM program.
- Participate in the training of house officers.
- Provide high-level referral and specialty medical care.
- Contribute to innovative pedagogical approaches in line with curriculum enhancements.
Clinical Environment
The candidate will join a dedicated team of ACVECC Diplomates, residents, and interns at the Foster Hospital for Small Animals (FHSA). The ECC program manages a busy emergency service, addressing approximately 15,000 cases annually, alongside an ICU that accommodates around 2,000 critically ill patients each year. Our services operate continuously, ensuring comprehensive care around the clock.
Facilities and Resources
Our Clinical Trials Office facilitates ongoing research into new therapies and diagnostic tools. The facility boasts:
- ACVECC Veterinary Trauma Center Level 1 designation.
- VECCS Level 1 Facility certification.
- A fully equipped nuclear medicine suite and advanced imaging technologies.
- Access to a range of minimally invasive procedures and state-of-the-art treatment options.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a DVM (or equivalent) degree and have completed an ACVECC or ECVECC accredited residency. Certification by ACVECC or ECVECC is required, with the expectation of achieving this within two years of hire. Preference will be given to candidates with board certification and relevant post-residency clinical experience. Strong collegiality and excellence in both clinical and didactic teaching are essential.
