New York, United States WaterAid America, Inc. Full time
Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSalary: $20

The fact that 1 in 4 people in the world today don’t have clean water is unacceptable, and we need you to help change that.

We’re the #1 international non-profit exclusively focused on bringing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education (WASH) to the children and families who need it most. These people are the 2.2 billion reasons we do what we do. Our global WASH programs, led and maintained by the communities where we work, aren’t a quick fix. We strive for long-term access to WASH that truly transforms people’s lives.

A People & Operations Internship at WaterAid provides hands-on nonprofit experience and a strong understanding of our global mission. Not only will you be learning about vital HR and operations systems that power one of the world’s leading non-profits, but you’ll also work closely with our People & Operations Coordinator to develop your own interests in nonprofit people and operations work, whether it be employee onboarding processes or Diversity Equity and Empowerment (DEE) initiatives.

As People & Ops Intern, you will learn how we:

  • Learn to use tools like SharePoint, BambooHR, Adobe Sign, QuickBooks Timesheets and Justworks to provide vital HR and operations support to staff at WaterAid America
  • Develop Diversity Equity and Empowerment (DEE) initiatives through participation in the DEE working group, staff workshops, and global webinars
  • Support the planning and execution of logistics for large scale events, including the United Nations General Assembly in September 2024 and a staff retreat in October 2024
  • Collaborate with global IT colleagues to maintain our IT infrastructure across WaterAid
  • Learn to deliver employee onboarding experience to new employees, including creating and managing onboarding schedules

You should apply if you:

  • Are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program
  • Want to improve your professional communication skills (oral and written)
  • Are comfortable asking for help and reporting to a remote manager
  • Want to gain experience working within a team
  • Are a curious, creative, and analytical thinker
  • Have sharp attention for detail and superb organizational skills
  • Have previous event management experience or an interest in event management

What we expect from you:

  • At least 15 hrs/week (days and hours flexible) and at least 1 day in-office (if in New York)
  • Professional and personable demeanor
  • Interest in the non-profit sector, relationship building, and international development, particularly from an operations and human resources perspective
  • A willingness to take initiative, an aptitude for learning, and a desire to grow

What you can expect from us:

  • Hands-on experience at one of the world’s top international non-profits (academic credit available)
  • A strong understanding of global water, sanitation, and hygiene issues
  • Mentorship to develop professionally from welcoming and accomplished colleagues, allowing you to discover your own interests in non-profit operations and human resources
  • The satisfaction of knowing that you’re doing your part to change the world
