SPONSORSHIP: Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe State Auditor's Office, a legislative agency that serves as the independent auditor for Texas state government, is seeking a qualified individual to intern in a temporary position from mid-to late January 2025 through mid-to late May 2025 to help cover the 89th Texas Legislature. The internship requires 20 - 40 hours of on-site work per week.
The Legislative Policy Intern will be responsible for assisting our legislative team track and analyze legislation as well as monitor legislative hearings in a policy area of interest to the intern. Additionally, the Legislative Policy Intern will research and develop an audit proposal to be considered for the SAO’s 2026 audit plan. Detailed instructions regarding specific duties are provided at the beginning of the assignment. Work is closely supervised and reviewed for accuracy throughout the internship.EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMEDThe Legislative Policy Intern will:
- Gain exposure to the Texas legislative process.
- Analyze bills and prepare summaries of committee hearings for use by the SAO’s legislative team.
- Gain exposure to the SAO’s statewide risk assessment process.
- Perform in-depth research of a state agency/program in a policy area of interest.
- Develop and present an audit proposal to key internal stakeholders.
Graduate student preferred. Preferred fields of study: Public Administration, Public Policy, Government, Business Administration
