Job Summary:
The HR Generalist will support the mission and vision of the Chief Seattle Club (CSC) by supporting various day-to-day human resources administrative functions including employee changes, answering employee inquiries, onboarding/off-boarding, benefits administration, and document management of employee files, policies and procedures, and job descriptions (digital and hardcopy). Under the direction of HR leadership, the HR Generalist will also support team projects related to performance management, training and development, and other HR projects as assigned. The HR Generalist will also work closely with staff and leadership to foster a positive and supportive work environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

HR Initiatives and Policies

  • Develop, implement, support, and review all Human Resource Department initiatives, policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Maintain templates for job descriptions and other related HR forms.
  • Update the All-Staff SharePoint with the latest template documents and other employee-related resources.
  • Ensure compliance with all policies and legal requirements and escalate to appropriate leadership as needed.

Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Lead new hires through the onboarding process in orientation, benefit enrollment, training, and introduction to CSC staff.

Employee Records and Systems

  • Update employee records with new hire information and/or changes in employment status within HRIS System and/or ATS System.
  • Maintain up-to-date staff tracking information such as training completions, federal/state family leave, and PTO tier anniversaries.
  • Administrative duties, including upkeep of digital and physical employee records in all applicable locations.

Performance Management

  • Assist managers and supervisors with updating job descriptions.
  • Plan and guide supervisors/managers around annual performance reviews for all staff.

Benefits Administration

  • Assist CAO & HR Director with benefits administration, including managing our 401k account.
  • Work collaboratively with Payroll, HR Generalists, and the benefits brokerage on shared employee information such as direct deposit, address, and benefit changes.

Training and Development

  • Plan, implement, and lead monthly staff training such as CPR, First Aid, and orientations with the HR Generalist team.

Employee Relations and Compliance

  • Process employees’ queries and respond in a timely manner.
  • Handle Employee information with composure and confidentiality.
  • Monitor working conditions to ensure legal compliance and report any staff changes with the Personnel Action Form.
  • Assist HR leadership with staff offboarding.

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, and knowledge of HRIS’s and ATS systems
  • Strong working knowledge of HR functions and procedures (e.g. pay and benefits, recruitment, training, and development).
  • Commitment to staying current on understanding of labor laws and disciplinary procedures.
  • Aptitude for critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Strength of character, ethics, commitment, and reliability.
  • Knowledge and understanding of historical and intergenerational trauma, and what that means to the Native American community.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent work experience, required.
  • 3+ years of experience in human resources, preferably within one or more of the following organizations: Native, non-profit, and/or serving vulnerable communities.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: work at a stationary work space for long periods of time, with mobility to move throughout the office; use a PC, constantly reaching with hands and fingers and keyboarding extensively; work with team as frequent communication is required, including use of the telephone; be able to read and write documents in hard and electronic copy, including those requiring great attention to detail; have the physical strength and agility to handle routine office tasks and machinery. Occasional travel may be required for certain employees depending on location.


This position is typically in an office environment with desktop business equipment and frequent telephone calls. Noise level is moderate. Frequent interruptions are common, while under deadlines and time constraints.

Most positions at CSC are exposed to members of the community who have experienced or are experiencing trauma in various forms including but not limited to domestic violence, sexual violence, homelessness, unemployment, financial hardship, etc. As a result, staff is at risk of secondary trauma. Employees are encouraged to seek external support and maintain self-care when working indirectly or directly with clients. Mental health care referrals for employees are available
