Building Trades Council of South Central Wisconsin (“BTCSCW”) is comprised of 17 local building trades unions representing more than 6,000 building trades members who live and work in our seven-county area. Our members lead projects that generate local jobs and revenue while building partnerships and helping to maintain our communities and infrastructure. BTCSCW’s key objectives include:
 
  • Promoting labor-management apprenticeship programs;
  • Serving as a resource for parties about the construction and building trades industry;
  • Addressing issues facing the building trades and employees in the building trades, including worker misclassification, prevailing wage, right to work, capital budgets, and responsible bidder or best value contracting policies.

We seek an individual to work as a full-time Executive Director. Salary and benefits for the Executive Director position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants should submit an executive summary or resume, three professional references, and a cover letter detailing the following:
 
  • Past work involving building trades’ issues and/or labor organizations or employee rights issues,
  • Familiarity with youth and labor-management apprenticeship programs
  • Familiarity with and scope of any past work related to social, political, and legislative issues relevant to the building trades and BTCSCW’s objectives.
  • Other relevant professional background, designations, or experience

Executive Director Job Description / Duties

The Executive Director is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and activities of the Council, as described below. The job description below is not all-inclusive, and the Council reserves the right to modify it as necessary.

Organizational Leadership & Strategic Planning
  • Serve as a leader, coordinator, and representative of BTCSCW and Wisconsin’s unionized building trades with respect to BTCSCW’s key objectives
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for BTCSCW
  • Draft and recommend the BTCSCW’s annual budget


Unionized Construction Trades Marketing and Promotion
  • Promote unionized construction labor-management apprenticeships in the trades to diverse organizations, communities, and individuals
  • Coordinate youth outreach and development programs in schools and with local or regional organizations to promote apprenticeships/careers in the union construction trades
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies to promote the council’s activities and achievements
  • Engage with media and other stakeholders to enhance the council’s public profile
  • Other related public affairs, marketing, and advertising objectives, as appropriate
Advocacy & Government Relations
  • Develop/maintain relationships with elected officials, governmental and agency officials, advocacy and partner organizations, and others so that BTCSCW may serve as a source of information regarding Wisconsin’s building and construction industry
  • Collaborate with other labor and advocacy organizations to amplify the council’s political impact
  • Maintain and expand relationships with developers, contractors, and other employer partners
  • Remain appraised of and current on developing or proposed ordinances or legislation or other issues of public concern impacting Wisconsin workers and the construction and building trades in South Central Wisconsin            
  • Advocate for and lead efforts encouraging the adoption of responsible contractor/ best value contracting requirements
  • Serve as the council’s designee on various boards, committees, and task forces
  • At the direction of the council,  prepare, draft, and submit responses, public comment, and/or testimony
General Administrative Duties
  • Handle daily business of BTCSCW, including coordinating with vendors and professionals on BTCSCW matters as necessary, including IRS, Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions, Department of Labor, and other regulatory filings
  • Send notices, prepare materials, and assist in facilitating Executive Board, Delegate, Business Manager, and Organizer Committee Meetings
  • Negotiate Public Sector Workers Collective Bargaining Agreements within the jurisdiction of the BTCSCW
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute BTCSCW’s outreach events, such as labor-management breakfasts, member appreciation cookouts, the annual Careers in Construction fair, the annual Take Kids Fishing event, and the annual Conservation Dinner
  • Prepare, develop, update, and maintain website and social media content
