Welcome to the Wisconsin Agri-Business Association We are looking for our next Executive Director based in Madison, WI as our current Director retires. In this role you will be responsible for the overall operations, programs, and performance of the association. You will report directly to the WABA Board of Directors and operate the association under the policies created by the Board of Directors. The position is a full-time salaried position that may require excessive hours of work.

At Wisconsin Agri-Business Association our mission is to grow the prosperity of Wisconsin's agribusinesses through advocacy, education, and engagement. The Wisconsin Agri-Business Association has a long, proud history. A merger in 2012 between the Wisconsin Crop Production Association and the Wisconsin Agri-Service Association made the organization what it is today, but our origins trace back all the way to 1936. No matter what our organization's name has been, our commitment to Wisconsin's agribusiness industry has never wavered. Our board of directors and staff are dedicated to the industry and to providing programs and services designed to strengthen the future of agriculture.

What you will be doing:

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Hire, supervise and evaluate the WABA staff.
  • Direct the WABA administrative staff in their job descriptions, assignments and duties.
  • Develop short-range and long-range plans and goals for WABA operations.
  • Administer and supervise all employee polices and operational polices as directed by the Board of Directors.
  • Assure and supervise the production, editing, and dissemination of all WABA communication materials.
  • Assure that the association is operating in accordance with all federal, state, county and local policies and ordinances.
  • Assure that WABA is protected with adequate insurance coverage – professional liability, D&O, Workers Compensation, Property, etc.

FISCAL

  • Develop annual operating budgets for approval by the Board of Directors.
  • Assure that annual audits are conducted by a certified CPA accounting firm.
  • Assure for accuracy in the collection of membership dues, program registrations and fees, and all other receivables.
  • Responsible for taking immediate action on overdue accounts receivables.
  • Approve expenditures within the prescribed limits as set by the WABA Board of Directors.
  • Assure that expenditures over prescribed limits are approved by the Board of Directors prior to payment.
  • Supervise the financial accounting and record keeping of WABA, assuring that generally accepted accounting principles are maintained at all times.
  • Work with the Board of Directors in the development of long-range financial planning.

MEMBERSHIP SERVICES

  • Provide professional involvement with WABA membership, building respect, confidence, trust and a positive working relationship.
  • Create a membership committee structure, getting members involved in the association
  • Develop and maintain membership programs which will aid and/or enhance training, operations, and profits for WABA members.
  • Create and disseminate informational mediums to WABA members.
  • Develop and implement programs and procedures for the recruitment and retention of WABA members.
  • Actively seek and recruit new members to WABA and actively work to retain current WABA members
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate informational and training meetings, seminars and conferences for the benefit of WABA members.
  • Plan, organize, communicate, and conduct an Annual Membership Meeting and an annual convention.

LEGISLATIVE AND REGULATORY ACTION

  • Create a positive working relationship with state agencies important to WABA members, including but not limited to: DATCP, WisDOT, DNR, DOR, DWD, DOA, DPI, DFI, and others.
  • Create a positive working relationship with elected officials important to WABA members, including federal legislators, state legislators, the Governor's office, local mayors, town and county boards, law enforcement, and others.
  • Closely monitor all proposed regulation and legislation, assess the effects such measures will have on our membership, and take necessary actions to represent the best interests of the WABA membership.
  • As possible, create regulatory and legislative initiatives and promote actions that will be beneficial to the WABA membership.
  • Manage the Friends of Wisconsin Agribusiness political action committee for the benefit of the WABA membership.
  • Assure that all regulatory and legislative lobbying and all collection and distribution of funds from the Friends of Wisconsin Agribusiness political action committee, are in compliance with the Wisconsin Ethics Commission regulations.

ADVOCACY AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Actively participate and maintain good working relations in agricultural advocacy groups such as the Wisconsin Agriculture Coalition and others.
  • Actively participate and maintain good working relations in regulatory boards and committees important to the WABA membership, such as: the DATCP Agricultural Producers Security Council, Agricultural Chemical Cleanup Program, Fertilizer Research Council, DOT Freight Advisory Committee, and others.
  • Actively participate and maintain good working relations with industry and university boards and committees, such as: UW-Discovery Farms, UW- Integrated Pest and Crop Management Committee, UW-Renk Agribusiness Institute, and others.
  • Actively participate and maintain good working relations with related national associations, such as: NGFA, AFIA, ARA, TFI, CLA, ASTA and others.
