POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Associate will provide a vital role in supporting the advancement needs of the League of Women Voters. This position primarily involves providing support to the direct mail and digital fundraising program, assisting with operational support for fundraising, engaging with donors via email, phone and acknowledgment letters. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and possess excellent communication skills. The role reports to the Senior Director of Direct Mail and Digital at the League of Women Voters.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Support for Direct Mail and Digital Teams:

  • Support the data and organizational needs of the Sr Director for Direct Mail and Digital.
  • Assist in the coordination of direct mail campaigns, including list management, content creation, and distribution.
  • Collaborate with the digital team to support online fundraising initiatives, including social media campaigns, email appeals, and website updates.
  • Provide administrative support as needed to ensure the smooth operation of fundraising activities.

Data and Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate donor records in the organization's database, ensuring all information is up-to-date and properly documented.
  • Generate reports and analyze data to support fundraising efforts and decision-making processes.
  • Assist in the implementation of data management best practices and protocols.
  • Engage with the data systems of the League to ensure that donors’ wishes (removal, refunds, alterations) are met in a timely and accurate manner.

Donor Engagement:

  • Cultivate positive relationships with donors through personalized communication via email, phone calls, and written correspondence.
  • Provide timely and accurate information to donors regarding their contributions, events, and organizational updates.
  • Collaborate with the Development team to develop strategies for donor stewardship and retention.
  • Provide assistance in answering donor emails.

Acknowledgment of Donations:

  • Prepare personalized acknowledgment letters, emails, and other communications to thank donors for their contributions.
  • Coordinate with the Finance team to ensure accurate recording and tracking of donations.
Requirements:

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING

  • 2+ years preferred experience in nonprofit development or program management.
  • Experience working with donor databases or CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce).
  • Understanding of fundraising principles and practices, particularly in the nonprofit sector.
  • Knowledge of best practices for donor communication and stewardship.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the League of Women Voters, with a passion for supporting the growth of the organization.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively with multiple simultaneous audiences and at various levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

LOCATION

The ideal candidate should be located in the Washington, DC, area, with a hybrid work schedule.


SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary for this position is $65,000. We have a generous benefits package that includes 95 percent employer –sponsored health insurance, dental and vision insurance, paid holidays, vacation days, sick days, pre-tax transit benefits, and the opportunity to contribute to a 401(K) plan.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The person in this position is primarily sedentary and needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery. The person must also be available to travel and walk longer distances to offices and events. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer, and computer printer.
