English Language Arts Teacher

Key Responsibilities
- Provide instructions in ELA for high school students, grades 9 through 12 with a focus on promoting an atmosphere of inquiry.
- Follow the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks, city-wide learning standards and Ostiguy High School curriculum guide.
- Develop materials, assessments, resources and standards for evaluation.
- Maintain accurate attendance and grading records.
- Provide a stable learning environment through a focused classroom management approach.
- Participate in all staff and program development activities.
- Communicate with students and parents regarding student attendance, academic performance and behavior.
- Participate in student teacher mediations.
- Participate in and facilitate after-school activities as needed.
- Attend all staff meetings
- Follow all Ostiguy High School policies.
- Work closely with counselors for behavior management.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- A Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and one to three years of previous teaching experience with youth is required.
- ELA Teacher certification is required or must be able to obtain certification within the first academic year of employment.
- Previous teaching experience in an alternative high school setting is highly preferred.
- Must be able to work cooperatively as a member of a teaching team, with fellow staff and with parents.
- Flexibility, initiative, and ability to work in a team required.
- Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.
