Position Summary

Presentation High School in San Jose, California is seeking a part-time Assistant Director of Robotics to lead our robotics program.


Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • B.A. degree
  • Experience working with middle or high school students
  • Experience with project-based learning and/or FIRST robotics (FRC) strongly preferred


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with programming a FIRST robot and/or computer programming or a willingness to learn.
  • Fabrication skills (machining, laser cutting, 3D printing, etc.) or a willingness to learn.
  • Strong, proven teaching ability and passion for design thinking and innovation.
  • Experience in Mechanical Design and/or CAD preferred
  • Excellent organization, verbal and written skills, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Available and willing to work occasional co-curricular events, including overnight field trips.
  • Total resonance with the mission, vision, and values of Presentation High School and the Catholic education tradition including a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Duties and Specific Responsibilities

  • Model for students the mission and values of Presentation High School
  • Serve as another point-of-contact for Presentation Robotics
  • Inspire students to create and experiment
  • Instruct students on the design and creation of a robot, including the fabrication of the parts needed for the robot
  • Monitor the lab to ensure student safety and emotional well-being
  • Collaborate with mentors to train students on relevant skills needed
  • Facilitate purchasing of robotics supplies and maintenance of tools
  • Coordinate team registration and travel plans for robotics competitions
  • Exercise professionalism at all times with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Other duties as assigned

Schedule/Hours (subject to change)

August to mid-November: 3 days per week

Monday, Thursday 3:00-6p (after school)

Saturday 10am-4pm

Administrative hours off-site: 5hrs per week (estimated)

2-day weekend travel trips (2) in late October and early November (TBD)


January to mid-April: 5 days per week

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 3:00-7pm (after school)

Saturday 10am-6pm

Sunday 10am-4pm

Administrative hours off-site: 8hrs per week (estimated)

3-day weekend travel trips (2) in March or early April (TBD)

Possible 5-day trip to championship in Houston in mid-April


Mid-April to August

2-3 Saturdays each month 10am-4pm

Administrative hours off-site: 3hrs per week (estimated)

The Assistant Director of Robotics/Assistant Mentor must be able to:

  • lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds

  • considerable time is spent in the workshop supervising & instructing students
  • work with frequent interruptions
