Shift Supervisor

Position Overview

Swift Straw is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Shift Supervisor to join our team in our Jasper, FL manufacturing facility. As our Shift Supervisor, you will act as a key point of contact between workers and management, ensuring effective communication and adherence to company policies and procedures. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the manufacturing floor during their assigned shift. This role includes ensuring that production goals are met, maintaining quality standards, and managing a team of production workers.

Responsibilities:

Supervision and Leadership

  • Manage, lead, and motivate a team of production workers to achieve production targets.
  • Conduct shift briefings to communicate production goals, safety updates, and other relevant information.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, safety guidelines, and quality standards.
  • Manage all employee time and attendance including PTO requests, attendance policy and weekly payroll verification through ADP.
  • Implement and administer all direct employee disciplinary actions including performance, attendance, safety, and Swift Straw handbook policies.

Production Management

  • Monitor and manage the production schedule to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Ensure proper film SKU is preloaded on each line before the shift.
  • Allocate resources effectively to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues promptly to avoid delays.
  • Ensure proper shift handoff is executed to set up each shift for success. 
  • Manage contingency plans for all plant issues including lack of attendance, downtime events or any other unforeseen circumstances.

Quality Control

  • Ensure products meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Implement and maintain quality control procedures and documentation.
  • Work with quality assurance teams to address any quality issues.

Safety and Compliance

  • Enforce all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

Training and Development

  • Provide training and development opportunities for production workers.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.
  • Identify skill gaps and implement training programs to address them.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of production data, including output, quality, and downtime.
  • Ensure hourly progress metric board is updated through the shift, and information is correct.
  • Ensure the Raw Material Handler enters serial information into Salesforce/Rootstock timely and accurately.
  • Ensure the Line Operator enters downtime into Salesforce/Rootstock timely and accurately 
  • Prepare and submit shift reports to management.
  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs).

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify areas for improvement in production processes and implement solutions.
  • Participate in lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
  • Encourage team members to contribute ideas for improving efficiency and productivity.

Qualifications and Characteristics

  • High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve production issues effectively.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse set of stakeholders, including local management, remote team members, and Company executives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, inventory management systems, and other operational software platforms.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
