Facility Overview

At Ocean View Psychiatric Health Facility, we are passionate about serving as a community resource to provide the highest quality inpatient services. Ocean View is currently a 39-bed voluntary acute in-patient facility for patients 18 years and older, offering private rooms and individualized care using a multi-disciplinary approach focused on compassionate care and best practices. We successfully expanded our facility to include a PHP and IOP. Additionally, we are in the process of growing our Long Beach facility to 80 beds and will be developing to new locations in Southern California soon.

Mental Health Worker Position Overview

Pay: $21 - $22 / Hour

2 Full-Time Day Schedules Available, full-time is considered three 12-hour shifts per week, 7 AM - 7:30 PM

4 Vacancies: Thursday, Friday, Saturday alternating Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

1 Vacancy: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday alternating Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday


Ocean View MHWs play crucial roles in recovery for each of their patients. Under the supervision of the Mental Health Worker Manager, the MHW utilizes discretion and independent judgment to prioritize, coordinate, provide, and document direct and indirect developmentally appropriate quality care in a behavioral health inpatient environment with minimal supervision. MHWs promotes and assists patients with self-help skills in the areas of eating, hygiene and grooming, and other activities. Monitors patient's attendance at assigned activities and maximize patient participation through appropriate motivational techniques. Conducts or assists both large and small activity groups and outings independently, but under the supervision of the Charge Nurse/designee. Encourages patient's interaction and socialization with other peers by providing feedback to patients and while acting as a role model. Accurately documents in writing each patient's attendance and response to activity and outings in the individual medical record. Responsible for meeting all regulatory and agency requirements regarding the documentation of clinical services delivered. Visually and audibly observe patient's physical and psychiatric conditions and report significant changes to the Charge Nurse. Maintain a safe and clean environment throughout the hospital.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 60 semester units from an accredited college or equivalent, required. Acceptable equivalent: (Medical Assistant certification or Nursing Assistant Certification plus 2 years experience working with mentally ill Patients.)
  • Two (2) years experience with mentally ill patients or equivalent inpatient psychiatric experience
  • Demonstrates competencies and knowledge in mental/behavioral health.
  • Ability to physically assist in lifting and carrying assaultive Patients weighing 100 lbs. plus.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write legibly in English.
  • Ability to take and report vital signs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four + (4) years with mentally ill patients or equivalent inpatient psychiatric experience
  • Bachelor's degree, particularly in Social Services, Psychology, or Counseling, preferred.
  • Ability to physically perform containment, escort, and restraint procedures with assaultive patients.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
