Summary:

The IT Support Specialist will provide Tier 1 help desk support, manage SQL queries, write code, support and coordinate third-party software, and maintain a strong data background. This position will handle software maintenance and troubleshooting, understand current city software, provide periodic training to staff, troubleshoot software issues, and develop improvements to associated processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Tier 1 Help Desk Support:

a) Respond to and resolve user issues and requests via phone, email, or in-person.

b) Document and track issues using the help desk ticketing system.

c) Escalate complex issues to higher-level support as necessary.

  1. SQL Queries and Database Management:

a) Develop and execute SQL queries for data retrieval and reporting.

b) Maintain and manage databases, ensuring data integrity and security.

c) Troubleshoot database issues and optimize performance.

  1. Coding and Software Development:

a) Write and maintain code for various applications.

b) Develop improvements to existing software processes.

c) Collaborate with other departments to understand software needs and develop solutions.

  1. Third-Party Software Support Management:

a) Coordinate with third-party vendors for software support and updates.

b) Manage software licenses and ensure compliance with agreements.

c) Provide support for third-party applications used by city departments.


  1. Software Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

a) Perform regular maintenance on software applications to ensure optimal performance.

b) Troubleshoot and resolve software issues.

c) Implement software updates and patches.

  1. Training and User Support:

a) Provide periodic training sessions to staff on the use of city software.

b) Create and maintain user guides and documentation.

c) Assist staff with software-related questions and issues.

  1. General Hardware and Software Maintenance:

a) Maintain and troubleshoot computer hardware, including desktops, laptops, and peripherals.

b) Install, configure, and update operating systems and software applications.

c) Ensure the security and integrity of IT systems through regular updates and monitoring


Requirements:

Qualifications:

  1. Education:

a) Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.

  1. Experience:

a) Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar IT support role.

b) Proven experience with SQL coding and database management.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Strong understanding of data management and analysis.
  2. Proficiency in writing code and developing software solutions.
  3. Ability to manage and coordinate third-party software support.
  4. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  5. Strong communication and training skills.
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to sit for extended periods.
  2. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  3. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Working Conditions:

  1. The IT Support Specialist will primarily work in an office environment but may be required to travel to various city department locations.
  2. The role may involve lifting and carrying equipment, as well as occasional after-hours work for system maintenance and upgrades.
