REQUIREMENT

ARCTOS is seeking a dynamic leader for our Industrial Innovation Laboratory (IIL). The IIL team performs applied R&D, technology development, and product development to improve the manufacturing and sustainment of aerospace and defense systems. The Director will lead a multidisciplinary team and oversee and grow a portfolio of externally funded R&D projects and related products and services for DoD, other federal, and industrial customers, to include but not limited to the Air Force Research Laboratory, Air Force Rapid Sustainment Office, DARPA, and DoD depots, shipyards, and the defense industrial base. Relevant technologies may include:

  • Additive manufacturing
  • Laser welding and processing
  • Robotics and automation
  • Non-destructive inspection
  • Augmented and virtual reality
  • Artificial intelligence / machine learning
  • Digital thread / digital twin

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide thought leadership in developing a strategy to grow the Industrial Innovation business lane.
  • Actively engage potential customers to understand needs and ideate potential technology solutions.
  • Mentor and grow a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians to meet project needs.
  • Identify and engage project partners, such as research institutes, to leverage specialized capabilities.
  • Manage project teams to ensure projects meet technical, schedule, and cost objectives.
  • Ensure effective plans and processes are in place to manage research facilities and equipment.
  • Embody and enforce a strong safety and security culture across the laboratory team.
  • Serve as member of the ARCTOS leadership team and participate in planning and reviews.

Desired Attributes and Experiences:

  • Confident, team-oriented problem-solver that enjoys leading groups to tackle technical challenges.
  • Prior experience working R&D efforts in support of DoD and/or other federal or industrial customers.
  • General familiarity with DoD organizations and R&D solicitation and contracting processes.

EDUCATIONAL, CLEARANCE AND CERTIFICATION

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in a research and/or manufacturing setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree (required) and/or advanced degree (highly desired) in a relevant technical field.
  • U.S. citizen (required) with eligibility to obtain a DoD security clearance if necessary.

PHYSICAL/WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Requires visual, hearing, and mobility capabilities to work in an active research and manufacturing environment, with ability to lift up to 35 pounds and operate manufacturing machinery.

TRAVEL

  • Nominally 5-10% travel anticipated in support of project activities and trade shows/conferences and will be performed under the guidelines of Federal Travel Regulations and/or Joint Travel Regulations.
