Your role at BHSN:

As a Family Support Respite Provider at BHSN, you will assist school aged children who are diagnosed with a social, emotional, behavioral, mental health, or developmental disability by taking them out of the home to engage in community or other various activities and to provide each child opportunities to develop social skills and experience success while having fun.

What your day might look like:

  • Provides direct supervision of child to relieve the stress of parents, to facilitate effective problem solving, to coach emotional regulation techniques, and to role model methods of achieving positive behavioral outcomes
  • Facilitates engagement in meaningful play, recreational and work activities to assist in decreasing negative and increasing positive emotional states
  • Responds quickly and effectively in crisis situations to de-escalate and to avert ECC presentations/hospital admissions
  • Maintains client confidentiality and confidential health information
  • Additional duties as assigned

Your skills and qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Ability to understand severe emotional disturbances and to interact with psychologically impaired children in a therapeutic manner
  • Knowledge of the developmental needs of children and their families to inform service planning and delivery
  • Valid NYS driver’s license and a driving record that is acceptable to BHSN’s insurance carrier
  • Possession of a vehicle deemed safe to transport children with current registration, inspection, and insurance; and willingness to use own vehicle
