Since 1974, Alpert Jewish Family Service (Alpert JFS), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, has strengthened and enriched the lives of men, women and children of all ages. We do this through a continuum of focused programs addressing the well-being of children and families of all ages, the independence and well-being of older adults, and the optimal quality of life for individuals with special needs.


Alpert JFS is looking for a skilled Intake and Referral Specialist to join our team and handle the initial requests for people calling the agency for services. The Intake and Referral Specialist will provide assessment and determine appropriate services to those who may be in pain, crisis, bereavement, financial need, etc.


Intake and Referral Specialist Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conduct telephone assessments to assure an understanding of the full range of problems in order to provide appropriate options and referrals
  • Conduct face to face assessments when needed
  • Implement crisis intervention techniques (via phone and/or face to face) to assure that the person in crisis is being adequately served - crisis intervention is most frequently used for clients who may be considering suicide, who need financial aid, or who may be emotionally distraught
  • Conduct short term supportive counseling (via phone and/or face to face) to assure that callers are being supported during possible wait lists or for clients who may only need one or two meetings
  • Perform short term case management (via phone and/or face to face) to assure that clients in need of advocacy are assisted
  • Serve as client advocate within and outside the agency, with family members, and other agencies to assure that clients are receiving the appropriate assistance
  • Conduct case conferences with C.A.L.L. Service, JFS, and outside agency staff to assure that clients are being served in the best manner possible
  • Document notes accurately and completely to assure that an assessment is comprehensive and the necessary interventions have been completed
Requirements:
  • Graduate degree from an accredited School of Social Work or another Behavioral Mental Health program.
  • Social service assessment skills required.
  • Previous intake experience preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Exceptional organizational, time-management, and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects and requests.
