Duty of Schedule:
Monday - Friday during academic semesters as course schedule and other duties require, flexibility helpful.

Summary//Objective of Position:
The successful candidate must have the background and experience to teach majors and general education chemistry courses, including the two-semester general chemistry sequence and the one-semester general education chemistry for non-majors. The ability to teach other chemistry courses, such as organic and biochemistry, would be ideal. A Ph.D. is preferred, but an MS in Chemistry is the minimum qualification. Also important will be the ability to set up and run CPMS, HPLC, and other recently purchased analytical chemistry equipment in a water quality research program, including the possibility of mentoring thesis students at the graduate level, which is highly recommended.

(90%) Instruction, Research, and Scholarship. Provide undergraduate and graduate students instruction in, but not limited to, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry. Advanced courses in the candidate's specialty may also available.

(5%) Mentoring, Advising, and Supervision. Mentor and serve as an advisor to students, train and supervise personnel in conducting research at the undergraduate, and graduate and serve on the graduate committees of other graduate students. Supervision of Technical staff if grants are developed.

(5%) Service. Faculty are expected to be collegial members of their units, and to perform appropriate sere that contributes to the effectiveness of their units, departments, the College and their professions. Service includes outreach to the greater Dine community to better position the college within the community.

Knowledge:

Skills:
Effective communication - effective written, spoken, and non-verbal communication skills, problem-solving and decision-making skills. oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable, but not mandatory. Navajo/American Indian preference is exercised but not mandatory. Bilingual and bi-literate Navajo preferred but not mandatory. A faculty is expected to have a high degree of proficiency in computer software use to support the administration of higher education. A faculty expected to have a high degree of proficiency in computer software used to support the administration of higher education. Software use include, but is not limited to, general office functions, such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Blackboard LMS, and internet services. In addition, a faculty is expected to utilize academic-specific programs for course delivery (face-to-face, synchronous, and asynchronous), and course maintenance 9such as grade submissions, posting of syllabus, modules, course itinerary, etc.)

Minimum:
Masters or Ph.D degree must be in chemistry or similar discipline area. A minimum of 18 gradate hours in the discipline are required.


Preferred:
Ph.D. in Chemistry or related discipline. Postdoctoral experience. Experience with, or interest in, working collaboratively across departments, as well as working with tribal peoples. Record of, or potential for, collaborative, multidisciplinary research, especially in research contributing to the Dine people. Record of successful outreach with stakeholders, and extramural funding.
