About the Associate Director, Community Engagement Role:

BRIC seeks an Associate Director to support its artists, residents, students, staff, and stakeholders who engage in services through BRIC’s programs.  Reporting to the Senior Director, Community Impact, the Associate Director will be responsible for working with BRIC participants and stakeholders and tracking their engagement with BRIC.

 

 

What You’ll Do in the Role:

The Associate Director will be responsible for the following in addition to any other projects as assigned by their manager, the Senior Director, Community Impact: 

 

Administration

  • Work with the Senior Director, Community Impact to execute BRIC’s short and long-term community engagement strategies across programs.  This includes identifying community engagement, workforce development, artist advocacy, and collaborative opportunities externally and within BRIC’s programs.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director, Community Impact to develop and retain a comprehensive engagement strategy;establish and monitor key community engagement outcomes, outputs, and deliverables supporting BRIC’s strategic plan, goals, and mission.
  • Utilize project management tools to ensure timely execution of project deliverables and regularly submit reports on engagement outcomes to staff, board, and partners.
  • Manage communication with workforce participants including youth, adults, internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Manage workforce participant youth and adult schedules and provide supervision.
  • Coordinate onboarding processes, staffing schedules, training schedule and payroll for workforce participants.  
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director, Community Impact to implement program evaluation tools and metrics for workforce and community engagement programs.
  • Act as BRIC representative and coordinator for  select Community Engagement programs on and off-site, liaise with production and operations staff.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director, Community Impact and BRIC’s development team to manage the budget for community engagement programs and identify and apply for funding opportunities; 
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to promote Community Engagement initiatives. 


Programs

  • Liaise with Marketing, Operations and Production departments to support logistics and communication for: the Intergenerational Community Arts Council, Stoop Share, Media Share, B Free Awards, Media Maker, and other critical community engagement programs.
  • Attend in-person and virtual meetings with the Senior Director of Community Impact to outline logistics, facilitate meetings, assist participants, implement plans, and manage timelines.


Participant Management and Engagement

  • Facilitate outreach and provide guidance for participants admitted to BRIC’s programs through intake/screening, rescheduling, reminder of upcoming dates/programming, assessing and referring participants to creative and workforce development opportunities, encouraging attendance, regular in-person meetings, phone calls, emails, and/or text messages; this may include communication with clients on nights and weekends;
  • Maintain appropriate participant information in electronic databases and hard files.
  • Initiate and lead special initiatives to engage specific, identified communities. 


Support to DEIB Working Group & Liaison

  • Manage the development and programmatic efforts of the DEIB Working Group.
  • Liaison between staff, Senior staff and Board to ensure DEIB alignment and support; draft and present quarterly DEIB progress report; work closely with WG members to implement institutional programs and professional development activities/events.
  • Plan and facilitate monthly meetings; Coordinate interdepartmental Lunch & Learns, and affinity groups.
  • Liaise between staff, senior staff and board to ensure DEIB alignment and support.
  • Oversee outreach to external participants in the programming strand such as potential panelists, partners, elected officials, clients etc.
  • Coordinate DEIB meetings, activities, and talks with members of the working group and BRIC at Large, including DEIB Board Committee
  • Provide other outreach and administrative tasks where required. 

 

Partnerships

  • Proactively seek partnerships to further community engagement strategies and respond to organizational inquiries for partnerships with BRIC; serve as liaison to partner organizations and maintain communication and relationships with stakeholder groups. Represent BRIC at select community meetings and neighborhood events.
  •  Coordinates the production of PSA’s and other materials for non-profit cultural and community groups.
  • Serves as primary liaison with Brooklyn Public Library, and other partners. 
  • Conduct research and outreach to identify new organizational partners, including non-profits who would benefit from BRIC’s educational services and cable/digital platforms. 
  • Develops tools to assess outcomes for partnership projects and prepare reports.
  • Work on special projects as needed.

    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent required, Masters Degree or equivalent preferred
    • At least 5-7 years of directly related professional experience
    • Strategic thinker
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities
    • Demonstrated experience with equity and inclusion practices, especially in relation to race, gender, disability, and social justice practices
    • Demonstrated experience facilitating groups and leading collaboration
    • Knowledge of community engagement, social-practice arts, and community/cultural organizing principles and practices. 
    • Knowledge of Brooklyn and NYC arts community, especially community-based organizations
  • Communication: An emotionally intelligent, values, and results-driven team player who can collaborate across departments and at all levels of the organization. An excellent communicator who prioritizes service to stakeholders. 
  • Commitment to Equity & Inclusion: Brings experience operationalizing equity within this role.

  • Compensation: The annual salary range for this position is $65K - $80K.
  • Status and location: This is a full-time, non-exempt role based in our Brooklyn office.

BRIC currently pays 100% of the premium for employee medical, dental and vision coverage starting on the first of the month after 2 months of employment.
