Role Description:

Full-time remote/hybrid Payroll Specialist role in Cambridge, MA. Responsibilities include day-to-day tasks associated with payroll administration, acting as the reporting supervisor for a staff of approximately 5-6 payroll processors, leading all client payroll implementation calls in conjunction with the payroll provider, presenting as a payroll service subject matter expert with the sales team, and processing dedicated payroll clients as needed.

Knowledge:

· Personnel and Human Resources: Principles and procedures for payroll processing, personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations, negotiation, and HR information systems.

· Employee Benefits: Understanding of group benefit plans, including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance. Strong knowledge of voluntary benefits, including flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, and dependent care savings accounts.

· Language: Knowledge of English language structure and content.

· Administration and Management: Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.

· Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, and their applications.

· Economics and Accounting: Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, reporting of financial data.

· Strong team management skills, leading by example and providing direct guidance and mentorship to payroll team members to ensure high performance and adherence to best practices.

· Ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, and demonstrate flexibility within a high-volume professional environment.

· In-depth working knowledge of multiple payroll platforms, including Paylocity & ADP. iSolve knowledge is also preferred.

Tasks:

· Provide oversight and leadership to the payroll team, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for client employees.

· Conduct weekly to bi-weekly staff 1:1 meetings and report to senior leadership status of each employee.

· Serve as the main point of contact for payroll implementations, attending sales calls as the payroll SME, and leading the implementation process for new clients.

· Act as a backup to payroll team members, assisting with day-to-day tasks and resolving complex payroll-related issues.

· Stay informed about changes in tax and deduction laws relevant to payroll processing, providing guidance to the team as needed.

· Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify areas for improvement and implement efficiencies in payroll processing and benefits administration.

· Handle a large volume of sensitive, benefits-related questions, concerns, and issues from employees and clients, providing exceptional customer service.

· Interface with external vendors and internal resources related to payroll, ensuring optimal service delivery.

· Verify and/or approve qualifying events, changes, and related payroll deductions, maintaining accurate records. Reconcile benefit invoices & train / oversee staff on the monthly process.

· Audit enrollment information, track specified benefits, and produce regular reporting on payroll and benefits accounts.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

· 5-10 years running payroll for 50+ employees.

· Experience with implementations across payroll platforms.

· Management experience leading a team of 3+ employees.

· Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience with time-sensitive information.

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.

· Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus.

· Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

· Ability to work independently and within a team.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including intermediate Excel skills.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality.

· This role is hybrid and must be local to the New England area with the ability to be on site in our Cambridge office as needed and visit local clients and prospects.
