Educational Equity Regional Manager


Reports to: Educational Equity Director Status: Full-Time, Exempt


At the Social Justice Learning Institute, we are dedicated to improving the education, health, and well-being of youth of color by empowering them to take hold of their educational future using research as a tool for community and social change. We train students to conduct research on problems in their community using a rigorous yearlong curriculum while providing basic academic support (i.e., tutoring, homework assistance, academic counseling, etc.) and college preparatory education. Our youth learn what it takes to achieve academically to go to college and become civically engaged, solution-oriented and critical participants in the democratic experience. We envision an educational system where youth become engaged citizens who discover their best talents and apply them to help improve the world they live within.


Job Summary

In response to the ever-growing need and demand for its well-recognized Urban Scholars Program, SJLI is expanding to new sites in several school districts throughout Los Angeles County. Each Regional Manager will supervise a team of program staff to successfully implement the Urban Scholars program to fidelity. The Regional Manager will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining strong partnership relationships with school district representatives, school site administrators and teachers.


Responsibilities:

Strategic Program Implementation

  • Planning and implementing short and long-term Urban Scholars program goals.
  • Manage day-to-day academic and career support Educational Equity activities.
  • Oversee Urban Scholars' in-class instruction and curriculum.
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, and supervise program activities, retreats and field trips.
  • Liaise between the Social Justice Learning Institute (SJLI), Urban Scholars, and partner
  • schools and districts.
  • Establish, maintain, and develop constructive and cooperative working relationship with school staff, district administrators, and volunteers.
  • Oversee direct service and program support
  •   Coordinate tutoring and academic support services with designated Ed Equity team members.
  • Assist and provide input for program events (i.e. Urban Scholars Culmination).
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee community and parent activities (i.e. Parent Night)
  • Communicate with the Educational Equity Director on program needs.
  • Design agendas and conduct regional team meetings.
  • Provide input and materials as necessary for the Urban Scholars Instructors’ Manual.
  • Assist with facilitating collaborations and partnerships with community members, public agencies, non- and for-profit organizations.
  • Assist with community participation and volunteerism.
  • Assist with increasing organization’s visibility in the community.
  • Identify opportunities for new community partnerships
  • Assist the Educational Equity Director with the development of strategic andProgram Monitoring, Evaluation and Data Management operational plans for managing the program.
  • Oversee and coordinate collection of student data, input into the database platform and maintenance of student records.
  • Collect information and data used in the preparation of grant reports, program summaries, program updates, and yearly reports.
  • Provide information and data to the external program evaluation team.
  • Ensure that Educational Equity team members complete monthly reports and other required reports.
  • Provide and review program information and statistics in support of completing reports.
  • Create the initial drafts of program summaries, program updates, and yearly reports.
  • Staff Training and Evaluation
  • Work with SJLI Training, Learning, and Curriculum Assistant Director on curriculum development and curriculum refresh.
  • Provide input for Educational Equity team member onboarding and ongoing training.
  • Conduct all quarterly and yearly program team member evaluations.
  • Collaborate on team-building activities.
  • Oversee and ensure that team members adhere to established safety policies and protocols.
  • Assist with program staff leadership and development.
  • Coordinate with Other SJLI Departments
  • Provide information and support to the Development and Communication department to complete grant proposals and grant reports.
  • Coordinate with the Communications team on Urban Scholars program collateral needs.
  • Participate in fundraising and securing in-kind support


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience and knowledge working in a middle and high school setting.
  • Ability to develop, monitor, and modify annual program budgets.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity and deep experience with computer technology and platforms including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other platforms as needed.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and presentations.
  • Able to demonstrate a commitment to the Social Justice Learning Institute's goals guidelines, and principles.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Possesses a valid California Driver’s License.
  • Able to obtain a live scan clearance.
  • Availability to work on weeknights and weekends.
  • Able to form strong relationships with a wide range of constituents, including, but not limited to, parents, students, staff, leadership and other community stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Able to create a productive team environment.
  • Able to effectively manage and supervise team members.
  • Familiarity with Los Angeles County’s various educational landscapes and how schools operate.
  • Experience in working with young people from a social justice youth development perspective.

  • Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in education, psychology, social welfare, or related field.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in an similar non-profit role.
  • Progressive experience in supervising and managing midsize to large teams.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and use a computer.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds
