Position Summary: The Fiber Broadband Engineer performs professional engineering work related to fiber networks. They’ll develop plans, specifications, contract scope preparation, administration, and supervision as needed on assigned tasks to see that these items are complete, accurate, and in accordance with good engineering practices. This individual is technically involved in the resolution of design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project. They may occasionally supervise and schedule the work of other team members. This Engineer will have client contact at management and staff levels and need the ability to present new concepts and project plans.
Essential Responsibilities
- Design fiber network projects utilizing programs and engineering tools such as Trimble GPS, ESRI, Visio, AutoCAD, Point-Man and other design software and tools as required by company, jurisdictions, or clients.
- The Engineer will conduct field visits to physically locate and document fielding objects to design engineer the Permitting and Construction plan sets for each of the assigned projects.
- Conduct right-of-way (ROW) research for each of the projects. Also assist project engineering team in researching the ROW and utility information in order to develop complete and accurate plan sets.
- Develop plans and specifications for contract preparation and administration.
- Provide calculations and records in support of feasibility studies, cost modeling, project management, and troubleshooting.
- Schedule and conduct meetings with the Owner to review contracts, perform pre-bid meetings and bid openings, pre-construction meetings, and final ride outs on a regular basis.
- Complete fiber optic placement and splicing design schematics.
- Attend and/or lead weekly coordination and project management calls.
- Maintain project status and keep the project status reporting system (database) current with the actions and changes that take place on assigned projects so the overall organization can respond to client requests. This will require onsite visits from time to time.
- Provide competent engineering and technical assistance to the Project Managers and Senior Project Managers.
- Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints to plan projects.
- Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety standards.
- Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility.
- Prepare or present reports on topics such as bid proposals, industry trends, and new technology.
- Provide technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to managerial personnel.
- Complete weekly time sheets, in conjunction with weekly expense and mileage reports.
- Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Ideally, CAD engineering experience in utility design and fiber projects, with an emphasis in Fiber Optical Distribution Networks, Fiber to the Home (FTTH), Electronic transport networks, or 3 years in Electrical Engineering with a strong familiarity in broadband networks.
- Field or OSP Design Engineer experience required.
- AutoCAD/Civil 3D experience is helpful but is not a requirement.
- Must be willing to work onsite in Fort Morgan, Colorado.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- A valid motor vehicle driver’s license in good standing, plus ability to pass motor vehicle record check.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors:
- Flow of work involves normal mental and visual attention along with manual coordination much of the time.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Travel:
- Travel approximately 30-60% of the time
The pay for this position has an anticipated salary of $70,000.00 to $90,000.00 annually. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, licensure, qualifications, experience, location, and industry experience.
