About the Position:

Pathway Partners LLC is seeking a Physical Science Technician to support a potential customer, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).  Physical Science Technicians support laboratory operations and Chemists in federal accredited crime laboratories specializing in the forensic analysis of seized drugs.

 

Position Description:
The Physical Science Technician will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Identifies and selects the appropriate process from many alternatives to adjust or deviate from standard work methods based on situations and conditions in a laboratory or at a field site. Performs data reduction and analysis using mathematical computations, plot charts, and other technical methods. Follows well-established work methods but uses independent judgment to resolve problems.
  • Monitors the stockpiles of laboratory glassware and pre-soaks, cleans, and re-stocks analytical glassware for the laboratory. Prepares laboratory reagents and performs reliability testing. Prepares chemical solutions for use in quantitative analyses.
  • Performs calibration checks on analytical balances using proper handling and weighing techniques.
  • Performs procedures consisting of a large number of precise steps for gathering reliable data. Prepares laboratory samples for analysis by utilizing methods such as grinding, filtration, and centrifugation. Selects appropriate test procedures for a number of different sample types and matrices. Applies various metallurgical, instrumental, and wet chemistry analysis procedures. Uses equipment to take readings, and records and analyzes data, noting the presence of inconsistencies in the results. Sets up, adjusts, and maintains instrumentation to ensure proper functioning.
  • Operates analytical instruments, such as gas chromatographs, spectrophotometers, and mass spectrometers, to carry out recurring quantitative or qualitative analyses.
  • Maintains detailed laboratory records such as computer database observation records, graphical representations, and spreadsheets showing calculations from laboratory data. Performs routine laboratory instrument maintenance and performance checks.

Minimum Experience Level:

  • Education: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics.

Or

  • Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
