POSITION DESCRIPTION & OVERVIEW
Title: Welcome Center Advocate
Reports To: Associate Director of Outreach, Welcome Center, and Shelter Operations
Schedule: Mon - Fri, Daytime Flexible 8:15 am - 4:15 pm
Compensation: $20.73 - $22.23 DOQ
Job Classification: Hourly, Non-exempt, 40 Hours/Week
Union Representation: This position is represented by the AFSCME Local 999
The Welcome Center Advocate is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of our busy reception area. In addition, the position provides information and referral for clients and visitors. This person will perform other administrative duties as requested for all Agate programs.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS
- Provide receptionist duties including answering and directing calls, greeting clients and visitors, and making community resource referrals.
- Assist clients with navigating service systems and completing paperwork.
- Manage lobby area to ensure safe, secure, welcoming environment.
- Assist with administrative work by sorting incoming mail, fax and package reception.
- Troubleshoot technical issues as they relate to phone and computer service.
- Assist the Finance Department with customer service for the Representative Payee Program.
- Assist the Development Department with customer service for volunteers and donors.
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION
Light work - Mostly standing with some sitting. Occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates Degree or equivalent experience in Human Services or Business Administration.
- Information & referral experience.
- The ability to set boundaries and manage direct client contact including defusing and de-escalating clients who are in crisis or displaying inappropriate behaviors.
- The ability to work with persons who struggle with mental illness or chemical dependency.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
- Proven ability to multi-task.
- Excellent communication skills, courteous manners and customer service experience essential.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a diverse workforce.
- Must have valid state ID and pass background check.

Experience that gives applicants the required skills, abilities, and perspectives listed above are commonly gained through one or more of the following:
- Personal experience with homelessness;
- Experience working, interning, or volunteering with people experiencing homelessness;
- An Associates, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Social Work (with accompanying licensure), Human Services, or Family Studies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Switch board experience in high-volume environment.
- Experience processing mail or working in mailrooms.
- Lived experience of homelessness.
- Fluency in languages used by our clients (Spanish, Amharic, Oromo, Somali, ASL)
REFERRAL BONUS PROGRAM
