Job Purpose: Responsible for development, implementation, and evaluation of girl programming through the SISTERS (Stay in School to Enjoy Real Success) Program as well as other Community Programs as needed. Community Programs Specialist will develop appropriate programming to reflect girls’ needs and report measurable outcomes. The SISTERS ultimate outcome is keeping girls in school to graduate from high school. The SISTERS Program focuses on girls in grades 6th-12th grades but also does programming with K-5th grades. The SISTERS Community Programs Specialist will also be asked to work with other Community Programs with the ultimate outcome of making Girl Scouts available to every girl. The Community Programs specialist will be asked to complete other tasks as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Attend training necessary to carry out assigned duties including, but not limited to, CPR/First Aid certification and youth protection training.
  • Provide curriculum that supports yearly goals and objectives in line with the Girl Scout program philosophies of GSUSA and GSCTX.
  • Ensure all program events and activities are planned and implemented to comply with GSUSA and GSCTX policies and guidelines.
  • Identify, organize, develop, and maintain community resources/partners within assigned areas in order to secure support and group meeting space.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies and retention plans for girl and adult membership.
  • Plan and conduct group meetings within assigned areas.
  • Provide program evaluations with measurable outcomes for each troop and compile data from evaluations.
  • Ensure that girls and adults being served are registered as members of Girl Scouts.
  • Ensure inclusiveness in membership and participation.
  • Prepare and submit reports as assigned.
  • Work cooperatively with Council staff to accomplish Council goals and objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with Member Services to provide cooperative retention, recruitment, and training opportunities.
  • Provide support for Council resource development and fund-raising activities. Acquire knowledge of development process and policies and interpreting them for volunteers to ensure proper and effective communication throughout the Council regarding resource development and asking others to give.
  • Provide quality customer service that resolves concerns by offering creative solutions in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to the policies of Girl Scouts of Central Texas and promote girl scouting in a positive manner to the public as well as to all internal and external customers.
  • Ensure inclusiveness in membership and participation.
  • Deliver community program series at partner locations to bring Girl Scouts to girls where they are.
  • Support the Community Programs Manager.
  • Displays professional demeanor, and integrity at all times.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties or assists other projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Effective communication skills, both orally and written.
  • Possess excellent computer, time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to relate well with people from a variety of economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Proven record of customer responsiveness and active listening skills.
  • Knowledge of program planning and coordination.
  • Knowledge of statistical reporting, record keeping and scheduling.
  • Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision, as well as take initiative in making decisions.
  • Ability to effectively resolve a variety of problems and concerns within the scope of Council policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities to ensure work is completed in a timely and productive manner.
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook or similar productivity software.
  • Has reliable transportation and cell phone that may be used for work purposes.
  • Ability to make a commitment to the philosophy of Girl Scouting, both nationally and locally.
  • Ability to effectively interact, work, and collaborate with people of various cultural backgrounds and promote an environment of inclusivity.
  • Have and maintain a valid TX driver’s license, and acceptable driving record, acceptable insurance, and reliable transportation (for positions that require driving).
  • Yearly membership in GSUSA is required.
  • Satisfactory results from a criminal background check are required.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 1 years of experience working with youth and developing youth programming curriculum.
  • Some Girl Scout experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working in the non-profit sector or for a membership driven organization.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Capable of lifting up to 30lbs.
  • Capable of viewing computer monitor for long periods.
  • Capable of sitting and performing office duties indoors and florescent light for extended periods of time.
  • Travel by car within council jurisdiction,

Environmental Demands

  • Flexible work schedule including frequent evening and weekend work.
  • Some outdoor activities and exposure to weather.
  • Ability to travel within the council jurisdiction.
  • Frequent work under stress and under pressure of deadlines.
