Job Title: Director of Nursing

Status: Full Time Days

Shift/Hours: 8am-4:30pm, No Weekends

What do I need as a Director of Nursing with Messiah Lifeways?

  • RN license in the state of Pennsylvania in good standing
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years nursing management/supervisory experience
  • Experience as a manager or supervisor in long term care.
  • Progressive management experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years nursing experience
  • Certified Nursing Director of Long-Term Care Certification (or will obtain within 1 year of employment)
  • CPR certification

What will I do as a Director of Nursing with Messiah Lifeways?

  • Director of Nursing is responsible for ensuring that nursing care and services are delivered to residents of the nursing care facility based on professionally accepted standards of practice.
  • Ensure that nursing staff members are adhering to professionally accepted standards of practice through at least annual review and revision as necessary of the departmental policy and procedure manuals.
  • Review monthly quality assurance/improvement reports from the pharmacy.
  • Ensure that resident care delivery is prompt and meets or exceeds expectations.
  • Assist the Nurse Liaison with any medical issues for potential admissions as needed.
  • Review any medical data on potential admissions in the Nurse Liaison's absence as needed.
  • Review all incident reports.
  • Direct, manage, and participate as a key contact in the regulatory agency surveys in the nursing care facility.
  • Direct, supervise and lead the Assistant Director of Nursing, Staff Development RN, Wound Care Nurse & Dieticians to ensure compliance with facility and regulatory agency guidelines and requirements.
  • Develop, review, and implement the nursing department operational and capital budgets in cooperation with the administrator as needed.
  • Serve as final level of administrative interpretation of regulations and facility policies and procedures prior to administrator involvement for residents and families.
  • Maintain communication with immediate supervisor (nursing care facility administrator).
  • Direct and approve the allocation of nursing department resources for purchase and distribution in collaboration with the NHA.
  • Provide feedback to nursing department staff through timely performance appraisals.
  • Ensure nursing department staffing and scheduling meets resident, and facility needs and is within approved budget.
  • Serve as a member, participate in, and provide leadership and guidance to the following nursing care facility committees.
  • Ability to exhibit the following core competencies required by members of Organizational Council: Messiah Lifeways Operating Culture, Building Great Teams, Management and Budgeting, Communications, and Technology Skills.
