35 hours per week


Normal Work Schedule:          

Monday through Thursday:

  • Base hours - Monday – Thursdays: 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
  • While school is in session, this role is required to lead 2 hour weekly meetings for one evening each week.
  • Occasionally this role will be required to attend promotion/outreach activities on evenings or weekends.
  • All staff are required to occasionally be on call for 24 hours at a time as part of our Sexual Assault Response Program.

Position Summary

  • Provides primary prevention and education utilizing evidence-based educational programming across the social-ecological model for students and adults in the areas of sexual assault, relationship violence, gender-based violence, stalking, and sexual harassment.
  • Works closely with community leaders and school partners to build and expand prevention education within our community.
  • Provides and maintains training on sexual assault, prevention and teen dating violence issues for all staff.
  • Provides advocacy for sexual assault survivors from a trauma informed, culturally responsive social justice perspective.
  • Responds in-person to Sexual Assault Response Program calls at local Emergency Rooms.
  • Facilitates SafePlace Peer Education, Action, and Knowledge (SPEAK) teen leadership group. This role is responsible for recruiting, educating, and mentoring this group in presenting to elementary, middle, and high school students.
  • Builds and manages relationships with area colleges to spread awareness of Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence on campus. Attends various fairs and presents to students and staff.
  • Supports youth staying at shelter with play groups, advocacy, and education activities.

 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities of this position include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

Prevention and Youth Education Work: 75%

Develop, provide, and maintain Prevention Education for sexual assault and teen dating violence, meeting the goal set out in SafePlace’s Strategic Prevention Plan.

  • Develops and maintains partnerships with local schools, universities, and other organizations to conduct community level prevention education strategies in a collaborative manner.
  • Maintain outreach and community education with youth-serving community partners.
  • Build and maintain a social media presence for youth education
  • Attend community meetings, task forces, and coalitions to help plan and coordinate prevention education within schools.
  • Develop culturally responsive materials for youth looking to access SafePlace resources.
  • Create Flyers and outreach materials as needed.
  • Conduct ongoing data collection and assessment of efficacy of Prevention activities.
  • Adapt to community feedback to improve efficacy of education activities
  • Report on Prevention Activities to leadership

 

Plan and facilitate community outreach and educational activities for grant specific deliverables.

  • Accurately and consistently gather data on grant-specific metrics to ensure continued eligibility

 

Support Youth Staying in Shelter

  • Facilitate prevention groups as needed.
  • Conduct intake on youth; identify needs and seek to find solutions
  • Support youth in enrolling and remaining in school
  • Connect youth with appropriate services for issues such as substance abuse, mental health, physical health, etc.
  • Advise the agency on providing culturally relevant youth services.

  • Provide and maintain straining on youth and adult sexual assault issues for employees, the board, interns, and volunteers

 

Take part in developing, assisting, and attending various Awareness month campaigns and events.

  • Design materials, activities, and campaigns to promote and integrate various Awareness months with SafePlace activities
  • Develop an annual plan which identifies key Awareness opportunities, lead and recruit other staff to be involved

 

Follow various agency data collection procedures

  • Complete proper intake paperwork when doing advocacy
  • Properly scanning and filing of client paperwork
  • Entering client information into various systems such as InfoNet and Notehouse
  • Always prioritize client confidentiality
  • Promptly make any reports to Child Protective or Adult Protective Services as a Mandated Reporter when abuse is suspected

 

Engages in regular Professional Development to ensure we remain Culturally and Professionally Competent

 

Provide youth advocacy, education, and prevention to youth in Residential Services Program.

  • Conduct intake of new youth in shelter.
  • Assist youth and parents to obtain schools, medical and legal records needed for youth success.
  • Coordinate and work with advocates to develop goals, objectives, and action plans for youth in shelter.
  • Provide education, information, and referrals for parents and youth, as needed, or requested.
  • Assist in advocacy on youth issues and resources development for advocates within the agency.

 

Sexual Assault Services Program and Direct Service Work: 25%

Provide services to sexual assault survivors through crisis intervention and advocacy

  • Provide advocacy for and respond to sexual assault related issues.
  • Participate in on-call SARP and PREA shifts as needed.
  • Respond to SAC calls as needed and requested
  • Complete sexual assault survivor follow-up.
  • Provide medical advocacy.
  • Document services provided into InfoNet and internal data reporting systems

 Qualifications

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • One year’s experience in crisis intervention and/or sexual and domestic violence survivor advocacy.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and training in sexual and domestic violence issues.
  • One year’s experience providing crisis intervention and/or sexual and domestic violence
  • Demonstrated understanding of sexual and domestic violence issues and legal
  • Working knowledge of the court system, law enforcement systems, and legal
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in prioritization and problem-solving.
  • Ability to organize
  • Experience establishing and maintaining working relationships with co-workers and community
  • Ability to work
  • Ability to handle stress
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a crisis intervention work
  • Have (or be willing to obtain) a car, current automobile liability insurance and

Training

  • Employee is required to complete the initial SafePlace ACT training and on-the-job crisis line training with shelter staff. This will be provided once hired.
  • Employee must attend 20 hours of on-going direct service training a year, which must include 15 hours advocacy, 12 hours of sexual assault training and 3 hours of CPR training.
