Overview of Responsibilities

The City of Tumwater is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Emergency Medical Technician and Fire Response Specialist. This role is essential in safeguarding lives and property through effective fire prevention and emergency medical response.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Duties:
  • Participate in ongoing training to enhance paramedic competencies; engage in monthly skills assessments within hospital settings.
  • Ensure medical vehicles and equipment are maintained, cleaned, and adequately stocked.
  • Educate the community through public classes on CPR, first aid, and emergency medical procedures.
  • Respond to emergency calls as part of a medical team, conducting thorough patient assessments and providing necessary medical interventions.
  • Implement advanced life support measures under physician guidance in critical situations.
  • Communicate with medical professionals for consultation during emergencies.
  • Transport patients safely to medical facilities, ensuring accurate documentation of patient care.

Firefighting Duties:
  • Engage in firefighting operations, utilizing various equipment to extinguish fires and protect property.
  • Conduct ventilation and salvage operations during fire incidents.
  • Document all emergency responses accurately during shifts.
  • Participate in fire prevention inspections and community outreach programs.
  • Maintain fire department facilities and equipment to ensure readiness for emergency situations.

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess certification as a Paramedic in the State of Washington. A successful completion of a comprehensive medical examination is required. Additionally, candidates should meet the standards set forth by the Civil Service Commission regarding age, education, and physical fitness.

Preferred Experience:

One year of experience in a municipal fire department or ambulance service is advantageous.
