Recreation Coordinator: Senior Programs

Recreation Department

Starting at $18.00 to $22.00 per hour

Based on qualifications

Troy's 50+ program provides activities and services to persons 50 and older, but adults of all ages are welcome to register for most programs. The Troy Community Center serves as a focal point to gather for programs offering support, information, activity, socialization and personal growth. With the renovation of the Senior Dining Room, Senior program offerings are expected to expand to meet the needs and wants of individuals 50+ in Troy.

DUTIES

  • Develop, plan, and implement daily operations of senior programs offered by the Troy Recreation Department, in coordination with the Senior Recreation Supervisor.
  • Practice excellent customer service and preventative safety.
  • Monitor senior programs to ensure that activities are running smoothly and safely.
  • Attend and facilitates programs, events, and trips as scheduled.
  • Assist Senior Recreation Supervisor in planning special events and day trips.
  • Oversee volunteers for specific senior programs, implementing and interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school degree or GED equivalent
  • Ability to work effectively both in a team setting and independently.
  • Proficient with computer software programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver license with a good driving record (based on City of Troy standards). Out of state applicants must provide current driving record at time of application and obtain State of Michigan license within one (1) month of appointment.
  • As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen (including marijuana).
  • Obtain CPR/First Aid certification within 6 months of hire.

PREFERENCES

  • One (1) year of recent work experience in the gerontology field, senior living, recreation planning, or closely related field.
  • Prefer one (1) year of experience planning events and schedule coordination.
  • Certified in CPR/First Aid

HOURS: Part-time, approx. 20-30 hours per week, year-round.

Schedule and availability must be attentive to programming and customer service needs. Regular schedule includes three to four (3-4) days per week with occasional evening and weekend hours for special events.
