DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Oversees and provides employee relations for the ministry through the interpretation and communication of the HR related policies and procedures i.e. the Employee Handbook and Collective Bargaining Agreement, if applicable.
- Carries out all disciplinary actions including any terminations in coordination with Ministry department heads.
- Coordinates the recruitment process with HR Coordinator for vacant positions and ensures position controls are kept up to date.
- Posts and advertises for positions, attends career fairs, establishes relationships with area colleges, universities and employment agencies. Works with department heads to facilitate the interview process and selection of candidates.
- Works closely with the HR Coordinator to ensure offers are made and pre-employment requirements are carried out in a timely manner. Pre-employment requirements may include background checks, fingerprints, physicals, TB testing, etc.
- Assists the HR Coordinator with ensuring onboarding documentation is accurate and submitted in a timely manner
- Ensures new employees are accurately and successfully added to the HRIS system.
- Ensures new employees are set up for success on their first day. This includes going over schedule, benefits, HR specific policies and procedures, and any other information to make sure new employees feel welcome on their first day.
- Coordinates with Managers on training schedules and assists in facilitation of any required performance maintenance such as 90-day reviews.
- Maintains employee files and ensures accuracy of content in compliance with applicable federal, state and local requirements including the Ohio Department of Health, Area Office on Aging, etc.
- Ensures proper upkeep in the HRIS system including terminations, transfers, status changes, deduction changes, etc. by working closely with managers to track any employment changes.
- Ensures timely notification to payroll of new hires, including timely paperwork, and terminations.
- Assists in the facilitation of employee benefits by providing enrollment information, answering questions regarding enrollment, and ensures timeliness of benefit elections.
- Communicates leave information to the appropriate individuals/divisions as needed – specifically FMLA, personal leaves and any ADA requests.
- Assists ministry leadership in the facilitation of location specific employee engagement initiatives including activities, holiday events and recognition and service award programs.
- Investigates employee concerns/performance management with department heads, as applicable, and provides recommendations for enforcement of policies and procedures.
- Involved in and may coordinate necessary training and education for staff of the facility.
- Initiates the injury reporting process for all reporting employee injuries. Works with the Workers’ Compensation Administrator in management of the claim including transitional work assignments.
- Completes unemployment claims and processes appropriately. Continues through the claim process up to and including attendance at scheduled hearings.
- Acts as an ambassador of Genacross Lutheran Services to the local communities in which we serve. Participates in internal and external community events and other activities to promote Genacross services.
- Reports allegations of abuse/neglect and reports, injuries, hazardous incidents, etc., as appropriate, to proper organization leadership.
- Engages with Ministry management team daily.
- Communicates regularly with Ministry Executive Director of employee concerns, etc.
- Performs other job duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
- Bachelors in Business Administration with a focus in Human Resources. An Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and/or equivalent years of experience in related field may be considered.
- 2-4 years of experience as a Human Resources Professional or in a related field required.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with HRIS system, UKG preferred
- Knowledge in all areas of Human Resources including benefits, compensation, employee relations, etc.
- Previous union experience highly desired.
- Ability to learn new software application as required by the position.
- Requires excellent organizational skills and good independent judgement skills.
- Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with senior executives, managers, supervisors and direct care staff, as well as residents, families and physicians.
- Understands directions; communicates and responds to inquiries promptly.
