Responsible for planning, managing, and directing all product development and engineering activities, including design development, qualification, and transition of new product to manufacturing. Responsibilities:
  • Establish objectives, set department goals, schedules and priorities, and review staff based on their accomplishments; drive accountability throughout team.
  • Develop the technology roadmap in alignment with Commercial activities and business growth objectives.
  • Own the Research and Development (R&D) budget and align activities with the technology roadmap.
  • Establish technical strategy and lead execution of the organization's next generation products.
  • Work with commercial and finance to establish estimated return on investment profiles for R&D activities.
  • Conduct research leading edge technologies, and make determinations on technology performance and implementation feasibility.
  • Establish and meet schedules for the introduction of new methods, new products or cost reductions.
  • Lead the transition of offerings from concept to manufacturing and product launch.
  • Establish/maintain outside vendor relationships for all technology utilized or outsourced by the company.
  • Grow the organization through effective hiring, coaching, and development of a world class technology team.
  • Prepare and present product development briefings to the President and key stakeholders.
  • Manage the IP portfolio.
  • Assist manufacturing operations in solving technical issues involving tooling, quality, process, and maintenance problems affecting the daily operations of manufacturing processes.
  • Determine root cause of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
  • Actively participate and drive technical team leadership at ASTM meetings and related activities.
  • Capture technical VOC through active engagement with customers during site visits, tradeshows, and ASTM events.
  • Protect the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Actively challenge existing processes to drive simplification and improvement.
  • Support the organization by performing cross-functional ad hoc analysis and leading special projects as requested.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience working heavily in new product development (NPD).
  • Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) preferred.
  • 5+ years experience in manufacturing engineering with 3+ years previous supervisory experience; preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in guiding a business R&D effort, monitoring market trends, and establishing/managing a "voice of the customer".
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Demonstrated leadership, analytical comprehension, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Team player with the ability to interface and communicate effectively with all levels of employees, management, and diverse audiences, including internal/external customers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a proactive change agent, passionate about engineering and customer loyalty.
  • Capable of analyzing data to make sound decisions on suitability and effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Self-motivated, self-starter capable of remaining flexible to changing work priorities.
  • Ability to align resources and manage team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive NPD projects from concept to completion.
