Job Summary:
The Port Washington Children’s Center is seeking a talented and experienced individual to join our team. The ideal candidate will be serving healthy, creative, and appealing meals (breakfast, lunch, and snack) to 95 Early Childhood students and 120 Elementary school students daily and on special school events. This exciting role is for a culinary professional who is interested in the Port Washington Children’s Center approach to achieving equity for all its students and will help inspire health and wellness through supporting the school's healthy food program. The successful candidate will be a creative and good team player who can work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create a monthly menu that offers a variety of healthy and appetizing options and is tailored to meet the nutritional needs of young children and adheres to Child and Adult Care Program guidelines and other relevant regulations.
- Order necessary ingredients from our vendors and ensure that the kitchen is fully stocked at all times
- Prepare meals in a timely and efficient manner, taking into account dietary restrictions and food allergies.
- Manage a Prep Cook/Dishwasher who will be supporting the kitchen with meal prep and cleaning duties.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, ensuring that all equipment and utensils are properly cleaned and stored.
- Keep detailed records of food purchases, meal preparation, inventory and other relevant information. Maintain and submit food reports as required.
- Work closely with other staff members to ensure that meals are served in a timely and organized manner.
- Be open to the staff feedback on the success of the meals in the classrooms.
- Communicate effectively with admin regarding meal plans and any special dietary requirements
- Attend and participate in in-service training and other meetings as required.
Qualifications:
- Experience working in a school or group kitchen setting.
- Understanding of creating monthly menus within the constrains of a set budget
- Understanding Child and Adult Care Program guidelines and regulations or the willingness to go through all the necessary training.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Creativity and a passion for healthy cooking
- Must have a Nassau County Food Handlers certificate.
