Washington, United States Athelas Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

Healthcare providers go into medicine to care for people, but end up losing valuable time each day to admin work and other workplace challenges. Time that could otherwise be spent helping patients. And patients end up suffering as a result. At Athelas + Commure, we build solutions that simplify providers' lives and keep them connected to their patients so they can focus on doing what matters most: providing care.

Our innovative suite of software and hardware – augmented by advanced LLM AI, RTLS, and healthcare workflow automations – boosts efficiency across every domain of healthcare, freeing up healthcare providers to spend more of their time caring for patients. Our growing suite of technologies include staff duress alerting, asset tracking, patient elopement, revenue cycle management, clinical documentation and intake, provider copilots, patient engagement and communication, home health, remote patient monitoring, and more.

Today, we support over 250,000 clinicians across hundreds of care sites around the country. And we’re only just getting started: Healthcare’s watershed moment for AI-powered transformation is here – so join us in creating the technology to power healthcare

About the Role

The Head of Federal Business Relations will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to enhance Athelas + Commure's relationships with the US Department of Veterans Affairs and other federal agencies related to veteran healthcare. This role requires a strategic leader with deep knowledge of VA healthcare programs, policies, and procurement processes.

The successful candidate will drive business growth by identifying and securing new opportunities within relevant government bodies, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and advocating for the company's interests at the federal level. You will be part of the broader Enterprise team which spans across all GTM functions, reporting to our SVP of Enterprise.

What You'll Do

  • Strategic Planning and Execution:

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive VA-focused business relations strategy aligned with the company’s goals.

    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the VA and related federal agencies.

    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align VA business development efforts with overall company strategy.

  • Relationship Management:

    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key VA officials, policymakers, and influencers.

    • Serve as the primary point of contact between Athelas + Commure and VA representatives.

    • Represent Athelas + Commure at VA meetings, conferences, and industry events.

  • Business Development:

    • Lead efforts to secure VA contracts and grants.

    • Develop and manage a pipeline of VA business opportunities.

    • Prepare and deliver compelling proposals and presentations to VA agencies.

  • Compliance and Advocacy:

    • Ensure compliance with all VA regulations and reporting requirements.

    • Advocate for policies and regulations that support the company’s interests and the broader HealthTech industry.

  • Reporting and Analysis:

    • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on VA business development activities and outcomes.

    • Analyze market trends and competitive landscape to inform strategy and decision-making.

What You Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Policy, Healthcare Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in federal business relations, government affairs, or a related role within the healthcare or HealthTech industry, with a specific focus on the VA.

  • Proven track record of securing VA contracts and building strong relationships with VA officials.

  • In-depth knowledge of VA healthcare programs, policies, and procurement processes.

  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Why you’ll love working at Athelas + Commure:

  • Highly Driven Team: We work hard and fast for exceptional results, knowing we’re doing mission-driven work to transform the country’s largest sector.

  • Strong Backing: We are backed by top investors including General Catalyst, Sequoia, Y Combinator, Lux, Human Capital, 8VC, Greenoaks Capital and Elad Gil.

  • Incredible Growth: Prior to our merger in late 2023, Commure and Athelas had independently grown more than 500% YoY for three consecutive years. We’ve achieved Series D funding, have an industry-leading runway, and continue to scale rapidly.

  • Competitive Benefits: Unlimited PTO, medical, dental, vision, excellent maternity and paternity paid time off.

Athelas + Commure is committed to creating and fostering a diverse team. We are open to all backgrounds and levels of experience, and believe that great people can always find a place. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to all applicants throughout the application process.
