Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to join our team. Under direct supervision, you will perform professional and technical accounting activities, focusing on Tribal Governmental fund accounting and grant compliance. Your responsibilities will include compiling financial information, financial reporting, general ledger management, budgeting and forecasting, audit support, and assisting in grant compliance. You will apply your accounting expertise to various budgeting and fiscal functions, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. Your role will be integral to our mission of excellence in financial management and Tribal Governmental fund accounting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • General Ledger Management: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, monitoring variances, and providing insights to support decision-making.
  • Audit Support: Coordinate with external auditors to provide documentation and respond to audit inquiries.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, internal controls, and accounting standards.
  • Grant Compliance: Ensure compliance with grant reporting requirements and monitoring grant activity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Journal Entries: Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries for general ledger accounts, document business transactions, and maintain an accurate payable function.
  • Invoice Processing: Ensure timely processing of invoices and payments to vendors.
  • Internal Reporting: Prepare internal financial operations reports as required by management.
  • Closing Process: Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes.
  • Audit Support: Coordinate with external auditors to provide documentation and respond to audit inquiries.
  • Monthly Reporting: Prepare monthly financial reporting packages for the Tribal
  • Grant Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and tribal regulations and policies.
  • Grant Monitoring: Monitor grant activities to ensure alignment with approved budgets and objectives.
  • SEFA Reporting: Prepare monthly SEFA reports for all grants.
  • Comprehensive Records: Maintain comprehensive records of grant transactions and financial activities.
  • Documentation: Ensure documentation is organized and accessible for reporting and audits.
  • Software: Knowledge of fund accounting software required; Sage Intacct preferred.
  • Communication: Maintain excellent communication with department team members and supervisors.

Experience, Education and Certifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years as a Senior Staff Accountant with a strong understanding of Governmental Fund accounting.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certifications: CPA or CMA certification preferred.

Candidate must be a minimum of 21 years of age.

Salary: DOE (Depending on Experience)
