This position will work to develop strategies and programs to increase Latino/Hispanic relationships and donation rates. The Hispanic/Latino Affairs Coordinator will develop and foster critical relationships with community leaders, as well as legislative representatives to assist programs designed to influence public policy, confidence, and goodwill.

Sierra Donor Services is a designated organ procurement organization (OPO) within the state of California – and is a member of the DCI Donor Services family.

For over four decades, DCI Donor Services has been a leader in working to end the transplant waiting list. Our unique approach to service allows for nationwide donation, transplantation, and distribution of organs and tissues while maintaining close ties to our local communities.

DCI Donor Services operates three organ procurement/tissue recovery organizations: New Mexico Donor Services, Sierra Donor Services, and Tennessee Donor Services. We also maximize the gift of life through the DCI Donor Services Tissue Bank and Sierra Donor Services Eye Bank.

Key responsibilities this position will perform include:

1. Establishes and maintains relationships with Latino/Hispanic groups and organizations in the community to raise awareness of organ and tissue donation.

2. Represents the company in community development activities and initiatives for the OPO’s designated service area. Partners with community groups such as major hospitals/transplant centers, faith-based organizations, etc. to establish a presence in promoting donation.

3. Legislatively represents and protects organization interests by working with local, state, and federal government entities. Develops key relationships with government and legislative leaders as identified. Ensures excellent working relationships with government leaders

4. Collaborates with Communications Team on the strategic goals and vision of the organization, including public relations, legislative affairs, website, social media, and marketing collateral. Contributes to web and social media content.

5. Represent the organization at community and business events which will require public speaking with poise and engagement.

6. Maintain current knowledge of the donation and transplantation industry, including national campaigns and strategies.

7. Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL TRAITS: Sits, stands, bends, and walks. Observes, speaks, listens, and reads. Communicates verbally and in writing. Lifts and carries light loads up to 30 lbs.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; Master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years in marketing and communication
  • Work experience in a healthcare organization is preferred
  • 2+ years Latino/Hispanic community relations involvement required
  • Previous experience managing projects required
  • Must be fluent in both the English and Spanish languages
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to pass MVR underwriting requirements
  • Computer Skills: Working knowledge of computers to include Microsoft Office, managing websites, and social media required
  • Must be available to attend events on weekends and evenings as needed
