Position Summary
The Association Controller is a crucial member of client teams, bringing exceptional skills as a NetSuite user with adept time management and prioritization abilities. In this role, the individual oversees full-charge accounting, directing general accounting, financial planning, and reporting for multiple non-profit associations. Working directly with the Accountants I and IIs, the Association Controller ensures seamless financial operations, timely financial statements, and provides valuable guidance.
Essential Functions
Monthly Financial Reporting
- Prepare timely monthly financial reports for multiple non-profit associations, including thorough analysis and interpretation.
- Provide variance analysis of actual figures versus budget, forecast, and previous year.
Financial Oversight
- Oversee client accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
- Maintain internal controls for revenue, costs, and program budgets to prevent inaccuracies in financial statements.
Collaboration and Analysis
- Collaborate with Account Executives to ensure timely communication of clients’ financial status by providing financial statements and leading recurring calls to discuss prior period results.
- Understand the business of association clients for accurate and in-depth financial analysis and guidance.
Audit and Budgeting
- Work with external auditor/CPA firm for reviews, audits, and tax returns.
- Assist in clients’ budgeting processes and recommend corrective actions to meet financial objectives.
Financial Policies and Improvements
- Facilitate the establishment and maintenance of clients’ financial policies, procedures, and controls.
- Recommend continuous improvements to clients’ financial processes, collaborating with client teams to prioritize programs and services for optimized revenue generation.
Other duties that align with the mission and vision of the company as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years progressive accounting experience, including month-end close processes.
- Experience in multi-company financial management highly desired.
- Strong NetSuite general ledger and financial reporting experience preferred.
- Proficient in Excel and Word.
- Association management or non-profit experience is beneficial.
- Prior management of direct reports preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to assess situations/issues rapidly and determine objectives and next steps for resolution.
- Proven ability to pursue and achieve aggressive goals.
- Capability to analyze numbers to drive change and elevate organizational performance.
- Preference will be given to local candidates
