Department: Accounting

Reports To: Controller

Direct Reports: Accounting Department Staff

Status: Full-Time; Exempt

General Summary: An exempt position responsible for assisting the Controller in planning and overseeing execution of the Accounting Department’s functions and operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Assists in overseeing Accounting Department staff in accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and bank reconciliations.
  • Assists in identifying Accounting Department staff training needs and oversight of their training.
  • Monitors staff workload and adjusts priorities as needed.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Controller to ensure Accounting Department is contributing to the overall financial goals of the company.
  • Assists in maintaining the documented system of accounting policies and procedures; assists in implementation of system(s) of control over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Assists in the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Assists with the annual budget and forecasting processes; reports significant budget differences to management.
  • Works with external accountants and auditors and provides needed information for monthly agreed upon procedures.
  • Assists in monitoring and maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be a self-starter and learn quickly.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent supervisory and people management skills and abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient with accounting software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially MS Excel.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.
