We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate or Senior Research Associate to partner with our computational biologist in leading large-scale genomics data analysis (WGS, RNA-seq, scRNA-seq), developing and optimizing bioinformatics pipelines, and collaborating with biologists and researchers. Your role involves managing and curating datasets, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and reproducibility, and utilizing your expertise in Python, R, Bash, and AWS EC2. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are essential for conveying findings through reports and presentations. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Computer Science, or a related field, with experience in high-throughput NGS data analysis and bioinformatics tools. This position will be located full time onsite in Cambridge, MA.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Perform comprehensive data analysis on large-scale genomics datasets (e.g., WGS, RNA-seq – or NGS, scRNA-seq) using bioinformatics tools and pipelines.
  • Develop and implement algorithms and computational approaches for analyzing complex biological data.
  • Interpret results and provide actionable insights to support ongoing research projects.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize bioinformatics pipelines for data processing and analysis.
  • Ensure pipelines are scalable, efficient, and reproducible.
  • Work closely with biologists, clinicians, and other researchers to understand their bioinformatics needs and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Communicate findings through written reports and presentations.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the planning and execution of research projects.
  • Manage and curate large datasets, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
  • Assist on AWS based S3 to S3 and SFTP transfers of big data.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Computer Science, or a related field is required. Master's degree is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a bioinformatics or computational biology role in the biopharma industry is preferred.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and Bash is required.
  • Experience in NGS platform/s is required.
  • Familiarity with AWS EC2 and cloud-based bioinformatics solutions is required.
  • Experience with bioinformatics tools such bwa, samtools, GATK, STAR, HISAT2 and snpeff is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing high-throughput NGS sequencing data.
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Experience with cloud computing and high-performance computing environments is a plus.
  • Understanding of biological concepts and the ability to apply computational methods to biological problems.
