Position Summary:

As a Heavy Equipment Technician, you will be at the forefront of maintaining and repairing a diverse range of heavy machinery. Your role will involve working on both large-scale equipment and lighter vehicles, covering everything from compact machinery to light trucks. You'll tackle a variety of tasks, including preventative maintenance, hydraulic systems, fuel and exhaust repairs, brake work, suspension, electrical systems, HVAC, and emission systems.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Utilize your expertise to diagnose and fix mechanical issues on heavy equipment with precision.
  • Carry out repairs and preventative maintenance on a variety of vehicles, such as excavators, dozers, graders, skids steers, etc. This includes working on engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, and body components, as well as hydraulic, brake, electrical, and suspension systems.
  • Review equipment condition reports and repair orders, communicating with supervisors and operators to clarify issues. Offer advice on preventative measures to reduce future repairs.
  • Complete necessary documentation for repairs, including parts usage and time tracking, ensuring accuracy between work orders and time cards.
  • Fill out daily reports detailing hours worked, fuel, and oil usage, and input this data into the Fleet Management Software.
  • Analyze data from oil samples, on-board computers, and fleet management systems to inform maintenance decisions.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct overhauls on both gas and diesel engines.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge in air brakes, tires, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrain components, suspension, steering, and wheel-end components, backed by ASE Certification.
  • At least two years of experience working on heavy equipment, with a proven track record of handling increasingly complex repairs.
  • Mechanical Trade School certificate or degree.
  • Certification in electrical diagnostics.
  • Relevant ASE certifications.
  • Familiarity with Tier 4 emission systems.
  • Welding and/or fabrication skills and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in a technician role, including knowledge and application of OSHA Haz Com, OSHA Lock Out Tag Out, and OSHA Fire Protection regulations.
