Liberation Programs, Inc. is currently seeking a Recovery Navigator to work at our Outpatient Treatment Facility in Bridgeport, CT. The Recovery Navigator will provide outreach services to parenting and pregnant women or to families/support of parenting or pregnant women.

Job Purpose/Function:

The REACH Women’s Family Recovery Navigator (WFRN) is a grant-funded, community-based, peer recovery support position. The WFRN will provide community-facing services targeted at pregnant and/or parenting women with substance use or co-occurring disorders, as well as parenting or pregnant fathers, grandparents, LGBTQIA+ individuals, partners of WRN clients, and other immediate parenting family or natural support who have been impacted by substance use. The WFRNs will work to engage women and individuals needing access to care and recovery supportive resources to increase real time engagement with treatment and support the development of an individualized recovery support network in their local community.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide education and support to pregnant and parenting women and Pregnant/expecting fathers, grandparents, LGBTQIA+ individuals, partners of WRN clients, and other immediate parenting family or natural support who have been impacted by substance use about substance use and co-occurring health disorders and available resources behavioral health disorders and available resources
  • Conduct comprehensive intake assessments that will help individuals identify and explore personal strengths, needs, community supports, and recovery capital.
  • Engage with and maintain relationships with community area health care providers, behavioral health, social services, recovery supports and additional community-based programs
  • Provide culturally competent and person-centered support services that improve the quality of life for pregnant and parenting women with behavioral health disorders by addressing the social determinants of health, in addition to understanding emerging conditions that affect them
  • Increase the capacity of the community to support pregnant and parenting women by identifying and addressing systemic barriers to treatment services, health care, social services and social support of such individuals
  • Identify, recruit and engage individuals that may need support for substance misuse or other behavioral health disorders and provide outreach, engagement, short term case management, recovery coaching and community connections to treatment and recovery support resources
  • link client to a range of supports and services including but not limited to MAT/MOUD, harm reduction, reproductive health Services, medical needs, employment, housing, child needs etc.
  • Maintain an unbiased, working knowledge of all pathways to recovery, including support for women not yet ready to enter formal treatment programs
  • Work collaboratively with clients, their families, community partners, and agency professionals


Qualifications as required by DHMAS for this grant-funded position:

  • Self-identified woman with lived experience of substance use
  • Must be a person in recovery OR have lived experience supporting an immediate family/partner in their recovery from a substance use or co-occurring disorder
  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Must be comfortable using her lived experience to inform and support the work.
  • Must have successfully completed or will complete (within two (2) months of hire) a DMHAS approved thirty (30) hour recovery-oriented training program.
  • Extensive knowledge of recovery-based supports, both traditional and non- traditional, and demonstrates the ability to integrate these resources into treatment
  • Working understanding of mental health disorders and how these diagnoses may impact recovery
  • Well-established understanding of the role and impact of trauma and gender on all aspects of outreach, engagement, treatment and recovery
  • Must maintain an unbiased, working knowledge of methadone and other medication assisted treatment formulations as a tool to support recovery.
  • Must possess an unbiased, working knowledge of harm reduction principles to support recovery.
  • Preserve a working knowledge of women’s issues and is comfortable discussing topics such as sexual and reproductive health including birth control and abortion, intimate partner violence, pregnancy, etc.
  • Ability to deliver services in person when requested by the agency or the Department.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients, their family, community partners and agency professionals.
  • Must be comfortable learning and using new technology for purposes including but not limited to documentation, presentations, data collection and reporting, etc.
  • Working understanding of mental health disorders and how these diagnoses may impact recovery.
  • Ability to professionally document services provided.
  • Have valid driver’s licenses and transportation
  • Job requires use of own vehicle to deliver services with mileage reimbursement
