Title : Staff Accountant

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer and Controller

Pay Grade: Salary

General Position Summary:

Provide financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data. Prepare Financial Statements, Tax Worksheet Schedules, and other Analytical Reports. Assist with the implementation and maintenance of IT programs, computers and software.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the coordination of company financial planning and budget management functions.
  2. Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget.
  3. Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
  4. Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  5. Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents.
  6. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  7. Prepare Federal and State payroll and sales tax reports.
  8. Manage the preparation of annual insurance reviews.
  9. Prepare financial analysis for product investment decisions.
  10. Audit annual Federal and State income tax returns.
  11. Work with department managers and staff to develop five-year business plans.
  12. Manage the implementation of IT programs.
  13. Plan and implement disaster recovery and back-up procedures, and information security and control structures.
  14. Perform quarterly inventories and verify annual inventory balances.
  15. Other duties and projects as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Comply with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  2. Direct financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements.
  3. Sustain information systems results by defining, delivering, and supporting information systems; auditing application of systems.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  1. Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
  2. Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with ownership, management, peers, and external company contacts. Ability to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously work on several projects.
  3. Bachelor’s degree from accredited business school.
  4. One to three years of experience in a finance or accounting position.
  5. Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
