Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant is an experienced financial professional responsible for overseeing and managing the financial activities of the University. Their primary duties include preparing financial statements, conducting financial analysis, reconciling accounts, managing budgets, preparing Grant reports, and providing financial guidance to management and grant coordinators. This position also supervises other staff accountants, reviews their work for accuracy, and provide training and guidance. The Senior Accountant has a key role in the University’s Grant management, including financial planning, budgeting, and ensuring the integrity of the Grants reporting and financial management.


Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage month end reporting and transaction review.
  • Monthly reconciliation to advancement records.
  • Unitization and distribution to donor endowment funds.
  • Monthly reconciliation of investments and endowment assets.
  • Allocation of investment return.
  • Lead projects to improve the effectiveness of Finance Office practices.
  • Evaluate discrepancies and research/reconcile the cause of the discrepancies for
    investment assets.
  • Research accounting issues; interpret and apply generally accepted accounting
    principles.
  • Preparation of footnotes, schedules and surveys related to investments.
  • Project cash flows and monitor monthly cash needs; ensure timely transfer of short-term
    investment assets to address operating cash account needs.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in the acceptance and completion of work assignments.
  • Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality in the management of information.
  • Demonstrates written, verbal and interpersonal ability to deal with customers,
    supervisors, peers and subordinates as needed to do the job and resolve difficult
    situations.
  • Demonstrates excellence in customer service delivery.
  • Communicates and/or implements innovative ideas to proactively solve problems and
    develop the department/University.
  • Identifies and initiates actions independently to support the vision, mission and
    objectives and to resolve or avoid problems. Takes initiative in troubleshooting and
    completing tasks.
  • Seeks to learn and continuously develop self. Uses resources wisely and effectively.

  • Working knowledge of Banner ERP System
  • Higher education or not-for-profit experience
  • CPA
  • MBA
    Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
    Physical/Other Requirements:
  • Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per university
    policies
